Just been reading up on the Shelby County War of 1839 to 1844.

Seems to me the Moderators faction was completely ridiculous. Sure the Regulators weren't exactly nice people either, but at least their stated intentions were to cut down the cattle russling and other illegal activities that were going on in the area. Whereas the Moderators just wanted to allow the illegal activites to continue, under the guise of wanting to "moderate the regulation." Either way thank god the law finally stepped in a sorted them out, though it took long enough.

Wondered if anyone had read into this subject and had a view on it? Fascinating period of history, but sadly we don't get taught about it at all really where I'm from.

If you mean the law did an excellent job, then I'm not so sure. The original 500 militia led by Travis G. Brooks and Alexander Horton seems to have been pretty inefficient. But once Sam Houston got involved himself then it seems to have been resolved pretty quickly so yes good job to him.

Hang on though, "Regular-Moderator War?" What's that?! If you check the link I posted you will see that it was colloquially referred to as the "Regulator-Moderator War."
