I've had enough of people spreading absolutely garbage information on this thread when all the answers are pretty much a Google away.

Google's policy on depreciation for those people who are wondering why it hasn't removed the AS3 player

https://developers.google.com/youtube/terms#deprecation
(you may need to do a manual Ctrl+F for the term "deprecation" to get to the relevant section)

It states that they "will use commercially reasonable efforts to continue to operate those YouTube API versions and features identified at http://developers.google.com/youtube/youtube-api-list without [discontinuation or backwards incompatible changes] until the later of: (i) one year after the announcement or (ii) April 20, 2015" unless:

  • required by law or third party relationship (including if there is a change in applicable law or relationship)
  • doing so could create a security risk or substantial economic or material technical burden.

And I doubt that any of those items in the list are relevant to the Neko situation. Atelier801 isn't a big name company do you really think that if they sent a letter to Google telling them to not discontinue the AS3 API, that Google will listen? I highly doubt it.

That's why Meli assumed that it would not be available after January 27, 2016, because Google's policy is that they are only obligated to support it up until that date. However, they haven't disabled it. Why? Because what they stated is that they aren't OBLIGATED TO SUPPORT IT, it doesn't mean that they are going to outright remove it on that day. So what should we take away from that? It just means that after January 27, 2016, do not expect any support from Google for the thing (similar to how after April 8, 2014, Microsoft will no longer release updates for Windows XP) and don't expect the AS3 API to continue to be available even though it could still be available.

What I'm really trying to say is - keep trying to enjoy Nekodancer/videos in tribe house while you can because it could be gone tomorrow, but the day that it goes is not predictable. And stop panicking.

Also, one other thing I looked into on the web - can the new Youtube API be used in TFM/Neko? What I found out is no, because apparently Flash can't do HTML code in it, and the new API requires the use of IFrames, and so you can't put an IFrame into Flash.

Additionally what could be done to save Neko is have it solely run on user-linked MP3 files. You can still play MP3 files in TFM, so I don't see why this could simply be carried over into Neko to save it for now.

solfn a dit :

also I'm not the only one unhappy with what's happening, the communities of bouboum fortoresse and nekodancer are unhappy as a whole.

this is because all these games are not popular. there's nothing much that can be done other than asking atelier801 to try to promote them more. but i doubt they would do that since tfm is their crown jewel. plus, all three of them are basically rip-offs of pre-existing ideas. im sure you can find BOMBERMAN MULTIPLAYER elsewhere, TEAM FORTRESS 2 on steam, and FLASHFLASHREVOLUTION elsewhere.

eilimakk a dit :
I knew the reason I just don't get why Google would do that to a game(s) that have a lot of players

it doesn't, and the AS3 API was not only used on this game. it has been used in many places such as on an online alarm clock that i found and still use sometimes:
They did it because Flash is known to have a lot of security problems and is just very buggy in general (not to mention memory leakage). HTML5 is the future. Flash is dying. The whole one year deprecation thing is so that developers can try to either: 1) Implement the new API (not possible in TFM/Neko's case, due to what I wrote above), or 2) Find an alternative (I remember reading here that vimeo has been proposed as an alternative). As someone wrote on this thread, Atelier801 had loads of time to either adapt or change. They chose to do neither, and it kind of goes to show how much Atelier801 really cares about Neko (TFM video playing is not an essential part of the game).

(I responded to that statement because I've seen too many times "Wow why would Google do this to Atelier801???" when it's not just them they're doing it to and it's pissed me off so much when ppl ask that because Atelier801 is not the centre of the universe. And plus they're doing it to keep with modern standards.)

Well we had the impression something was up when the videos continued to work
I did mention that we shouldn't worry about neko shutting down until we get actual confirmation i.e. the video players actually stop working, or something else happened
It's a little bit hard to control rumors but I think the community is fairly relaxed for now

The problem is in Google, because they are the owners of Youtube and their updates. They will decide when they will remove flash for their own security. Since they started a lot of years the HTML5 project. Everything now will be hard. Just saying because Flash is forbidden in Chrome soon. And in Apple they don't use it.

Aww, so this means no more Music rooms, /musique (I assume this means that audio still won't play from YouTube, right?), and videos in tribe houses in Transformic, huh?
That sucks.
