[Disscussion] Decrease In Map Makers

I feel map makers are quiting/going inactive from the game/stopping making maps at a surprisingly fast rate, I myself am one of the only active map makers who even still actively goes on the forums, I could name several names who don't go on anymore, so before I continue let's pay our respects to them.

Fxie
Rodenticus
Artkiller
Tuiii
Vinbear
Ron(to many n's)
Thejkb
Snowconezzz
Mapeditor
Lordlego
Froi
Ssk
Turnerj

and many many more who arn't even noticed, this alarmingly fast decrease is starting to become worse, yes there is a few new map makers such as Paperonaruto, but it's still decreasing faster than it's gaining, sooner or later there may only be some odd 10 map makers who even still do anything.

I would like everyone to disscuss this large decrease in active map makers, including what the solution could be.

This game lost it's appeal for many of the map makers that were originally considered as the elite (they usually had interviews on CFM) or they are busy in real life (like in Bunniecake's case).

However, if you look at the enormous amount of maps that are still being submitted every day I don't think there's any reason to believe the map making community is going inactive. Sure, most of the maps aren't extraordinarily good, or even good in any way, but map making still has it's appeal it always used to have. If I look at the average number of maps we have in discussion on any random given day I have not even the slightest reason to believe the map making community is decreasing in activity.

I do feel that the overall quality of maps has been getting worse. There's a simple explanation for it though: Over time, more and more original ideas get executed in a good way, leaving originality the hardest factor in making a map, to the point where nearly every concept has been done before and it's ultimately the hardest part to come up with something which is both new AND enjoyable. Due to this increase in standards it becomes hard for the average map maker to develop his map making skills as the complexity in making maps is growing more and more difficult with every update, and even the tools that are created for it can't take this away. (XML editing, joint objects etc)

I do believe however that there always will be map makers that do succeed in being innovative. Also, even though we don't get that much, with every map editor update, lots of new great maps appear. I think it's just a case of being patient.

They are inactive but there maps are still being permed. I doubt holo being inactive though.

Just rarely make any maps due to time!

I don't think there's a decrease in map makers of any sorts. Is just natural for some to drop down and new ones to come.
As Bak said, considering the map flux on Px threads, I doubt the map making community is dead.

Anyway, I think the main issues with the map making community is a lack of original ideas, as mentioned in previous posts, and this means less activity from older map makers and whatnot. I guess it all contributes to an overall decline in the quality of maps.

Karbon is a bit busy MODEARTING THE GAME, as far as I know Iluhchez is banned?
Bunniecake is busy with school, Redditguy is banned, Kalafior quit like before half of you even joined, Thejkb quit, Artkiller quit when he quit modding, Tuiii quit because his girlfriend was jealous he spent so much time on TFM...

Iluhchez isn't banned unless he got banned in the past month. He returned to TFM a month or two ago and still periodically gets on every so often.

Oh, my apologies; last time I had spoken with him he was banned. I didn't know if it was permanently or not.
