Hackers. Hackers everywhere. |

Hello, my fellow mice. I am here today to talk to you about a problem that has plagued us throughout known history, and continues to plague us to this very day. Many have encountered this nefarious menace, and have cursed their ill fortune at losing a first to the crow-winged rats, particularly so for the past week. I am talking of course, about hackers. "But How," you may say, "we already have the perfect solution! We'll just have our awesome mods ban them!" and indeed, this has long proved satisfactory in keeping these unseemly pests from bothering us. Since November of 2010, our moderators have banned an average of 1,834 people per day, 1,425 permanently (the majority of which were hacking), and 409 lesser bans for things like racism, and vote ban abuse. However, in the (not so) recent past, our mods have been dealt a grievous blow in their ability to fight this teleporting menace. They've had their ability to permanently ban anyone removed, and changed to a maximum ban of 15 days. This attack came right at our dear Transformices' moment of glory, when we were finally able to purchase the long-vaunted strawberries. The rulers of our glorious kingdom did this to protect their paying customers from a possibly misguided and mistaken banishment. However, most of the people being protected by this action have never purchased a single strawberry. This great game began the sale of fraises on the 14th of June, 2012^. After that date, we see a change in the trend of bans. Instead of a few days of intense hacking, followed by several days of peace, until the cycle repeats itself, (due to the IP bans being cleared by an update), We instead see a constant, steady stream of hackers, whose 15 day bans have worn off. This creates a much more stressful environment for the keepers of the peace, and nearly all of their time is being devoted to banning hackers. On the 3rd of March, 2013, 14,358 people were permanently banned*. Since then, excepting a short week-long period near the end of may, there have been hundreds, if not thousands, banned daily for hacking. Clearly, recently, hacking has become either much more popular, or the software required to do it has become much more available. As a result of this, our mods have been overworked nearly constantly, and are being yelled at by hundreds of mice, whose anger is greatly misdirected. Recent events have resulted in a nearly perfect storm of immense proportions, unseen since the early days of Transformice. The combination of increased hack availability, increased player interest in hacking, and decreased moderation powers, have resulted in most hackers believing that they can do whatever they want with no consequences. Thus, my proposal is this. 1: Add a Permanent IP ban list, that is not reset every time the game updates. 2:: Add a native ban log, with both username and IP, that is easily accessible on either a webpage or an ingame menu. Ideally, it would have several sorting options, such as grouping by IP, and a search feature. 3: Either restore the mods' powers to their former glory, or implement a 3-strike policy. (Anyone IP banned for 360 hours 3 times is added to the permanent ban list) 4: Add a clause to your ToS stating that modifying the game for personal advantage can and will be punished by a permanent ban, and could possibly cause you to lose access to anything you've bought with fraises. Something must be done. If things continue as they are, I would not be surprised if the mods' frustration with their inability to make a lasting difference causes them to resign from the position, leaving things in an even worse state than they are now. Sources: *http://tfm.holzed.com/bans/ ^Ediz, and his IRC trivia bot. tl;dr: skip to the numbered list at the end for my suggestions to kill the hackers |

It's 3rd of March, not 3rd of May when 14,358 people were perm banned. |

Oh wow. I had no idea how bad the hacker situation was/is. I agree that something needs to be done about this. I like the idea of a 3-strike policy system. e: Oh. |

1-Most ips are dynamic. If you perma ban an IP you may block an innocent user from playing when he gets that IP. 2-I dont think its legal showing private IPs. Anyway how is that going to stop hackers. 3-They already do that i think. 4-Topic-19473 The only way to stop hackers is increasing mods (with the amount of players that plays tfm you need around 1000 mods instead 100) or hire a programmer to just patch hacks (but not sure if they can afford that). |

I think that 3-strike thing is already for the hacking bans. |

Do you really believe that cheaters will wait 15 days and then cheat again? As far as I know only americans still get static ips for personal use. The great majority of the players have dynamic ips which can be changed with a very simple procedure (like pressing a button at the webinterface from the router). So your suggestions 1-3 are totally useless and suggestion 4 is already done I think. |

![]() Well. Hackers can't be stopped i think, tho, i was thinking if admins could make something like when there is an advantage example when their jump is higher than the default one which is 1.5c .And when it is higher than an automatic ban happends. You may say its the activete suspect, if that is tho, why it doesn't work in some hacks ;.; |

Arber a dit : Because Tig's auto-detection of hacks only works in a certain way to see if certain parts of the SWF have been modified, there are ways around that to disable it for a client, and other things that simply need different checking. |

yes. yes yes yes. its horrible to see how everyday hackers gain more and more popularity and grow in number. as a fellow romanian player, with a community with no moderator, its frustating to depend on our english moderators, calling for their help at least 20 times a day. i do hope there will be a better way to automatically detect a hacker and at least give him a temporary ban. its been oh so long since ive seen the anti-cheat actually work in rooms. i appreciate the dedication moderators give, but soon it will be too much to handel :C i know some paid games in which if you hack, theres no way of getting the account back. nope. all your money gone. why wouldnt we do the same? oh yes, your account might be stolen, thats another thing, sigh i like the suggestions you gave, but, as others said, dynamic ips are the only thing getting in the way. oh well. hackers cannot be completely stopped, but i wish it wouldnt be so ridiculous. im getting sick. |

I'm surprised account bans still aren't being done properly, but other than that there's the option of hardware bans (although I'm not sure if this is possible with Flash). |

Permanent bans for consistant hackers still occurs, they're just handled by Sydoline and possibly other Community managers now. This was announced when the change originally was made. But the problem is this: Noexcuses a dit : It's too easy for people to change their IP's and simply hack again, and there's no efficient way to stop a specific person from continuing to hack. They can simply change their IP and account again and again. It's not something unique to TFM, it happens with every online community and game. Just like viruses, as long as there are people with the programming knowledge and the time, there will be hackers or people breaking the rules. You could give Mods back the ability to permanently ban hackers again and it would probably help, but it creates the issue that the Admins want to avoid of possibly banning innocent players. It's debatable how bad this would be or if this is a better alternative to hackers, but it's completely understandable to avoid. Frankly I believe the best way to deal with hackers is to try to have as much manpower to combat it as possible and to also take it with a pinch of salt. If they don't get the response they want then there's no point to them hacking, and those who hack for stats do get caught eventually and have their rank disqualified which is what matters to them. Mods do a great job banning hackers and it can be stressful, but in the end i'm sure they can manage the position. They aren't obliged to do anything if they don't feel inclined. |

I've not seen any hacks on EN or ID, and BR always has them so I'm not too flustered. They go to the servers with little to no moderation, thinking that mods from other servers can't ban them. BR canned a ton of their mods and it's hard to find mature players. ES has similar issues. Also yes, hacks can be patched; but with more people making hacks then its hard to deal with the problem. |
