This suggestion is to the moderation team, public and private, who need to task themselves with cleaning up the indigenous chats that are opened by the /chat function and upon login.

  • I believe this is necessary due to the great number of children inhabiting these chats, most of whom are exposed them to unsuitable, offensive and corrupting conversational material.
  • Not only this, but these chats are used by players who are labelled as Ban On Sight to engage in the same antics that got them their ill-fated position in the first place.
  • Lastly, there is little to no moderation of this function during most hours of the day, up to and including peak hours for the heavily populated chat instances which needs to see improvement.

I have brought this up with moderators in the past number of weeks and those I have spoken to are in agreement that there needs to be some considerable improvement in the way these chats are moderated and the time dedicated to moderating them.

My proposal is that a team dedicated to the moderation of aforementioned chats be created. Be this from existing moderators, both public and private, or new recruits, I do not know. I would recommend recruiting new people who have both the time to dedicate and the effort to this task and that they be reviewed by a801 staff rather than the moderation team to avoid bias.

This would expand the horizons of the team, as well as introduce new members capable of tasking themselves with quite a mountainous job. The safety of the younger players of this game is paramount and it is our duty to dedicate as much work as we can to ensure that they are well and not exposed to that which they should not be.

Thank you for taking the time to read this and I hope you align with this suggestion.

I can't help but think of Bryul when I read this.
I support, simply because this is an actual essential to any game with a highly active chat function.

While I like the idea of having "Chat Moderators" who can keep an eye on the chat, I also feel like there could be some obvious problems that would need to be addressed too before implementing something like this.

  • For one, I feel like they shouldn't be recognized as a public staff because one of the main reasons why moderators take forever to respond to a problem is the flood of whispers they get on a regular basis. If these Chat Moderators were private, just like you would see in Vote Crew members or even the Lua team, then they would be able to respond to reports ASAP.

Also, by having these moderators kept hidden, maybe it would allow players who are under 18 that are both active and friendly to have a shot at having a role in their community. Of course, they wouldn't have full access to the regular moderation team's tools, but only just enough to be able to read a report and address it. By dropping the age restriction, this would widen the span on much needed active players who aren't always as busy as the regular moderation team.

  • Another issue would be how much power is given to the team. Since they are Chat Moderators, do they just focus on the chat, or do they help moderate other areas too? Just moderating the chat could prove to be boring over time, especially for more active players who do not have any other responsibilities besides moderating the chat. I feel like they would need more things to do such as:

    • Moderating the public chat.
    • Help public moderators patrol the café by keeping inappropriate topics and vulgar language in check.
    • If all public moderators/Arbs are busy, Chat Moderators could look into other report that isn't chat related (except hack unless it is obvious) and relay it back to the team.

Overall, the idea is great and it is something that is needed, even more so in the future if Transformice were to continue on same growth within the next few years.

I agree with everything said though I'm confused what the difference with a801 staff and moderation team is. Are you implying only admins should be allowed to choose?

since cafe counts as chat too, think they could also watch over that place knowing its quite toxic over times, as Grim says above too

Creating a new subgroup of moderators is not going to solve the problem of having a limited amount of suitable candidates for the moderation role. The lack of chat moderation is nothing but a lack of manpower. Always has been, always will be.

definitely need more mods, or maybe just a total redo of the staff if they have become uninspired or have stopped playing the game. I never see mods around anymore.

Considering the increase of new and potentially young players I've seen around recently in both international and EN2, I agree that having that extra support from staff members would benefit the game a lot.
