I also have no home internet (for now) so I have to walk to a library to have internet on my laptop in order to upload art, which I can't do every night after work (or else I'd have no time to draw at all ;-;) The most I can do is tease you with how many mice I've drawn and hope you guys see me upload (which is hard because the times I can use the library are the absolute deadest times on the forum.) I haven't abandoned anything, I'm just experimenting and building a large mental reference library for future endeavours. I will return to the more humanoid cartoons of the Hanabarbera variety, but I want to be able to render fully realistic, consistent mice before I fully dive back into cartooning. If you jumped into anatomy without any research into rythms and landmarks, its no surprise you havent gotten anywhere. Take some time to learn the fundementals and step into big topics from the begining ( or with best foundational knowledge you can find). When my anatomically correct style becomes more solidified and re-tweeked as I learn more and better ways to draw, it should make my other styles look like trash in comparison. Right now I'm drawing my mousie to test expressions under a modified mouse/cartoon facial structure. I love him but damn the goggles really limit the kinds of expressions that can be pulled off. I was really worried that learning the anatomy of a mouse would severly limit my ability to differentiate their faces, but its been the exact opposite. I'm 100% overwhelmed with the number if ways I can tweek a mouse's face under my newest abstraction method. I'm now most worried I'll never find a face for my mouse that I'm happy with and can consistently recreate. Dernière modification le 1492379580000 |

Currently I'm working on a master resource post that will contain everything you need to know about art and fundementals and the process of drawing (which includes anatomy and more), but as I dont have internet for the laptop it's been very slow going to collect and resource links. It is in the way to completion but I need to put more research into it so I can give you guys the most comprehensive guide to improvement as humanly possible (It already has several hours worth of YT videos). To tide you over until then, there's at least two gesture drawing sites (one of them is called Line if Action (or Line of Motion) but you can google Gesture drawing site for the other). I plan to use them as study tools when I have the net; You can also try form studies and drawing from life. As far as mice anatomy goes, I personally took everything I knew about humans and applied them to mice (I'm providing the best human anatomy guides in the Masterlist); I personally found their rhythms and their landmarks and created an abstraction to guide my drawings. I will be releasing this abstraction method with full video tutorial to the public when it is refined enough to allow any mouse to use it and have it be their own. I am 100% against brining the site towards one common style but I can at least provide you all with the skills and attitude you'll need to attain the highest level of art enlightenment on your own merits. Landmarks are places on the body that the skeleton shows itself from under the moving forms of muscle and fat, like the jut of the joints, the elbow, ect. (There's a chart of all the common landmarks of the human body just a google away). Those are the foundations of building an anatomically correct drawing. Note: Anatomically correct does NOT mean realistic, it ONLY means that your drawing could function in the real world (walk, talk, eat-- if it needed to). For example, a human drawn with no deltoids (cough-- anime-- cough) wouldn't actually be able to move its arm, which is why anime bodies look like freakish, blocky maniquin barby dolls (though sometimes you get decent artists who can bring the anatomical forms of the human body back into that dead, dry artistic landscape). Pretty much every big budget animated movie has anatomically correct models no matter how stylized, because the anatomy is the key to realistic, fluid motion. Rythms are how the forms of the face and body relate to one another. The Riley Abstraction is a systematic application of rhythm lines which seeks to map the relationships between features of the face in realistic and caricature human faces, but other rhythms can be the curves and straights of the spine and really any shape and line thats useful to you in a gesure. I'll be going more in depth on the Master list. I imagine many artists see the word anatomy and they think realism, and then they think, "well, I dont want to draw anything realistically." I imagine those people give up drawing after highschool believing they just had no talent or ability, when all they really lacked was perspective on what art, especially cartoon art, even is. You can call me pretentious, but art has rules, art has fundementals, and art is a science. You have to learn the scientific process before any experimentation, otherwise you're just wasting your own time and the time of anyone inspecting your junky science project. Sure, make a baking soda volcano for fun if it gets you interested in becoming a petroleum geologist. You won't be doing any cool, actual fun things until you put the work and study in.
