Hello! I'm Stovedove and I like making maps. Favorite Categories are shaman (P4), dual shaman (P8), no shaman (P7), survivor (P10 and P24), and lots and lots of parkour. I hope you enjoy my maps c: Content Last Updated: August 12, 2022 :o Special thanks to Chibi#0015 for unrestricting the thread so I can add more pictures <3 DISCLAIMER: All the information contained on this tab reflects my opinions and my opinions only, this is only meant to explain my view on mapmaking, and not to harm others or criticize maps that have already been permed. That is beyond the point of this message. If a mod or sentinel does have an issue with this that needs immediate attention, feel free to remove this section, but if it doesn't need immediate attention, I request that you privately message me to solve the issue. I have been pretty vocal over my time as a mapmaker, and I've been wanting to write this section on my map thread for quite a while, so here it is now. Mapmaking: The process of making maps. Transformice Mapmaking: The process of using the editor in Transformice to make maps for leisure or for submission to be played by thousands of players around the world. Transformice mapmaking takes a strenuous toll. Mapmaking for fun, just to make tribe house maps, or whatnot is completely fine, until you start realizing how limiting the in-game editor is. You start to fall into the spiral of trying to make better maps until you come upon the world of "professional mapmaking". Making maps for the one and only mapcrew or mapacraw. My frustration with the entire mapmaking experience has probably been built up from the past 6 months, and I could not possibly write about every little issue that I can see, but I will try my best to explain. The In Game Editor Everyone who's tried to use the in game editor knows how limiting.it is, from the bugs, to the amount of features not included in them (night mode, the NEW FEATURE dodue, joints, joints, joints, joints, every possible use of joints). Any map editor suggestions that do end up getting suggested only get rejected with the reason "Not a major issue right now". Neglection of the map editor makes the map making experience a PAIN. If you are a mapmaker that uses the map editor as your main editor to make maps, I commend you. If you have the ability to change the map editor, please, do something for the greater good of the map maker community. Mapcrew Clarity and Standards I am thankful for the mapcrew who have truly helped me grow, and understand mapmaking just a little bit more than before. One stigma with mapcrew however is a condescending force meant to reject maps rather than truly perm them. As for beginner mapmakers, getting into "professional mapmaking is nearly impossible, seeing rejection after rejection after rejection, with only feedback about how the map is bad rather than how it could possibly be fixed. The review system is flawed with simply being the judge, and not being the helper. Seeing more experienced mapmakers get discussion after discussion and perm after perm, leaves most beginners wondering, "What am I doing wrong?" The real incompleteness of mapcrew standards really is a pain to navigate through, and this goes for ALL mapmakers, experienced, and new mapmakers too. One such example: AFK death. You're not supposed to allow afks to die by afking and having them hit lava, acid, or fall off the map, but rather, die after 30 seconds naturally. I follow the policy in my maps, and I get the feedback "the waiting to avoid afk death makes the map seem awkward". Meanwhile, you get maps with possibly the lamest gameplay out there get perms, breaking this basic rule, easily allowing afks to die before this 30 second limit. Another example of the standard of mapcrew standards is seen between reviews: when one reviewer seems to praise the map, you put the effort to perfect it, to their standards, and what they see as fit. You submit it for the next review, and it gets utterly rejected, with complaints about lame gameplay, and breaking rules. Where is the standard? This can be seen in every category, but most recently in the quirkiness of the survivor reviews. The ideals of mapcrew and mapmakers simply do not align, and the reluctance for change is the root cause of many things wrong with mapmaking. Ex: Amount of maps allowed per review per category (P6 being a less popular category, with 2 maps max per review, and p4/7 being significantly more popular categories, and getting 1 map max per review, while reviews happen usually less than once per month). Another example being even the discussion between mapmakers on new perms, and discussions. I am absolutely grateful for mapcrew for even considering my maps in the first place, but I do believe that the entire process could be more transparent, and more efficient. This message is definitely extending way past what i expected it to be, so I leave with my final view with the issues on every category (or at least those I'm familiar with) P3/13 Issue: Perms only hardest maps or maps where everything is absolutely unclear ("Map should be fairly straight forward. Out of 6 minutes of playtime, it shouldn't take 3-4 just to figure it out." Play in ANY bootcamp room with a new map to see how long it takes for players to figure the map ou- oh wait, you won't find any new maps playing in rooms because players won't even bother to go through the time to figure out how to do the map) P4 Issue: More of a p6 category, but eh P7 Issue: Rejects 100% (rounded up) of maps due to repeated gameplay, and for maps with new ideas, nope, only reserved for experienced mapmakers. P8 Issue: Less issues to be honest, but still, the standard of having no standards on bridge maps. P9 Issue: What is P9 even looking for. P10 Issue: Quality Control. P11 Issue: Quality Control. P17 Issue: Accepts new gameplay, rejects new gameplay, rejects old gameplay, accepts old gameplay? P24 Issue: Reject every map for being unique, and accept every map for being similar to another map already in rotation. And if you really made it all the way through all this reading, thank you for seeing mapmaking through my eyes. If you want some free cc, whisper me in-game if I'm online, and I'll be glad to give you some cc if I have any. 15 P1s right now @7667822 (first p1) @7664971 @7674738 @7688917 @7704444 @7714556 @7721992 Fun surprises await! :p @7749905 Triangle things @7761987 @7766149 Similar concept to @7761987, different execution @7766613 @7774046 @7774481 @7793839 @7805094 There's 18 of them so they get their own tab :p (Map codes that are highlighted in red were depermed) @7681171 The first parkour map @7692679 The "Zoe" Map @7686886 The lava and ice map or the totally not Adidas map @7690152 The lazy low gravity map @7678002 An old map remastered @7681166 A good old map remastered @7689471 The "Lee" map @7700719 Parkour mechanisms @7707500 The easy parkour map @7711771 The minimalist @7713969 Deceptively hard @7715135 Valentine's ripoff @7727850 A very woody kitchen @7730874 Weird low gravity shenanigans @7732610 The "Tocu" map @7723659 High gravity shenanigans @7711727 Teleportation @7733177 The "Blank" map @7734204 Treadmills galore @7720264 Spooooooooooooooooky (16 checkpoints) @7736844 A classic @7739560 14 pigs (16 checkpoints) Current and recent maps that have been put into discussion for various categories. @7848328 Discussed for P18 Permed @7844639 Discussed for P10 Rejected @7840384 Discussed for P24 Permed and then moved to P10. Currently in the progress of reorganizing the thread. Meanwhile, I have added photos for the maps for convenience, and removed all maps that I didn't feel were up to my standard. |
