Make scrap metal more useful or less abundant |

Scrap metal is arguably the most abundant resource in the entire game, alongside wood. However, compared to wood, the high amount of scrap metal you obtain when scavage hunting is completely useless when you're past the early stages of the game. Scrap metal is barely used when crafting weapons or utilities, and it never shows up as a requirement in the research workshop. The only times you need a relatively high amount of scrap metal is when you're crafting a Pickaxe, Katana or Crowbar (10 pieces each). In most cases, you only need a fraction of the amount of scrap metal that is available to you. Even when you wish to build Camp buildings, you will have collected the amounts of scrap metal needed way before being close to collecting any other item needed to complete the building. So long story short, it's obvious that the amount of scrap metal in this game is outrageously high and should be balanced out one way or another. I propose the following suggestions, in random order: 1. Limit the amount of items that give scrap metal There is a long list of very common items items that give only 1 scrap metal. While they may not seem to have a lot of impact, because they are extremely common, over time the amount of scrap metal that is accumulated through gathering these items is quite high. 2. Make Industrial metal piece less common This would arguably have the biggest impact. Right now, you find industrial metal pieces left right and center. Making this item more rare will immediately result in less scrap metal that can be salvaged. 3. Make Industrial metal piece give less scrap metal when salvaging No other item in the entire game, excluding Logs, give as many as 15 resource per item. Considering the availability of this item, it becomes very easy to hoard a lot of scrap metal in a really short time. If you receive less scrap metal per industrial metal piece, it will take longer to accumulate. 4. Make scrap metal a requirement in research projects This is quite straight forward. If scrap metal is required for more than just crafting weapons, the necessity to nerf the availability becomes less. 5. Convert scrap metal into blades or tools This probably isn't a new suggestion, but it would certainly help reducing the amount of scrap metal in the game. If it was possible to use an X amount of scrap metal to create blades or tools, it would both help to reduce the amount of scrap metal in the game, and it would also add to the survivor aspect of creating everything from scratch. If you think about it, where do "tools" come from? They don't just fall from the sky right? A tool is made from wood and/or (scrap) metal. It would therefore be logical if you're able to build tools from scrap metal (and wood) in-game as well. There are probably more solutions to be thought of, but I think this is a good list to start off. |

Try to make weapons. You will need scrap metals. |
