an interesting idea and potential solution for this issue is: tracing the outline of a particular object with vector lines (this should be pretty straight forward). There is automated ways to make very simple rough vector outlines that are still accurate enough to cut out all the transparent space of the png. (your vectors background should be the sprite) use this vector trace as your hitbox for containers now when one sprite is infront of another its hitbox will only be the size of that particular container allowing players to click the items behind it or even the items peeking through cracks of the item infront. as long as the cursor location can see all hitbox boarders than all should be fine so make sure it can see through the sprites background border. This should make future development and expansion and bugfinding much simpler |
