Hello fellow boumers, I just wanted to start this thread to get your opinions on something I personally, would like to change and would like your feedback on whether you agree, disagree, think it's a good idea. Maybe you have an idea of your own about this particular topic? I want to know about it. My problem is this. I've noticed that with the shield power-up, if you're one of those guys that are almost always near the top of the score table - you will not get one. Now if you're one of those that are near the bottom of the table - you are almost guaranteed to get one. NOW, have you guys ever heard the term 'Shielder'? Yes IKR, GRRRRR. 'Shielders' are players who use their shield to spam all over the place without any real direction, or block you in with them KNOWING they will be safe but you will die. I know it's long guys please bare with me C:< Sooooo, I propose a change is in order! I think it would be better to have the shield power-up as a low percentage drop-chance, that ANYONE has a chance of getting. Something fair like 5% chance? I think this will cut down on people termed as 'Shielders' and at the same time benefit those people that use the shield to their advantage by making them actually play the game carefully (ahhh the good ol' days). It will also make the game a lot less frustrating for the rest of us! I'm sorry if this thread is difficult to understand, my English SUCKS! Disagreed. Some "noobs" (Newbies) Need shield powerups. Sometimes they don't know what they are doing, I am a noob, and I use shield no big problem with that. |

There is no only the shielders, but also the people who use the "Bunker" to make bombs explode and kill themselves and you >.< Or the Power-Up who makes you die when you are placing bombs. Sincerely, i hate most of the power-up ç_ç |

Either that or a number limit on how many shields you get each game. I've had people constantly target me because regardless if I've removed their shield all they had to do was walk in to another "?" tile to get another. Essentially giving players unlimited shields as long as they don't get passed a certain k/d ratio in the room is bad game design. |

Thanks for the comments guys! Is there anyone else that wants to comment on this idea? @Mippay - Yes, I know what you mean. I've been shielded to death many times and it frustrates me to see that the person who shielded me can walk 2 squares and just get another shield straight away. |

i Hate those suicidal noobs with shields and bunkers, the reason i don't play regular mode often. so i totally agree with this. but the admins (TIG) or the devs (TIG) rarely listen to the pro/experienced players, so.. don't bother make these threads, ever |

I just find it funny how they could have easily pleased players by just making rooms where power-up tiles don't spawn and making a ranked mode for it too, no need for extra stats or anything as it'll just be counted towards the already existing ones but sadly this'll never happen regardless of how much a simple change it could be. Bouboum's popularity has dropped so much I don't really think any suggestions will be seeing the light of day considering the game probably isn't of high priority anymore. Even though I'm rather sure a lot of players would come back if we didn't have powers shoved down our throats. A gamemode that relies on skill and not random luck? Man, that's just too crazy. |

If you can't use power ups to your advantage you're not that skilled to begin with. Some of them need to be tweaked and fixed (shields especially) I'll give you that. |

A random aspect of the game isn't something we should base skill off of, you're lucky if you get a power up that you can use in your situation. Infact power ups are an advantage for lesser skilled players to battle the more skilled players that actually spent time learning how to play the game, think of it as a handicap because even if an experienced player got a power up, it wouldn't be a very good one. Player's just want a more competitive scene like back in the day instead of being suicided by a shielder at the start of every single round and then afterwards just watching them pick up another power-up tile and immediately getting another shield. You can't please everyone, sure, but you could at least make it so the majority of players that dislike the power-ups have a place to go (Transformice's vanilla for an example). |

Mippay a dit : are you saying you are completely fine if every 8/10 rounds some noob gets shield and traps themself with you killing you but not the noob? I'm tired of all the crap updates. I miss those days when bouboum first came out. I prefer SPEED PENALTIES than some stupid power ups you can only get if you are a noob (on the bottom of the list with <2 ratio)! |

Mmm. It's how you use the power ups, that's what I meant, obviously. Anyone can get the banana power up but that doesn't mean they know how and when to use it, in fact most people just drop them anywhere intstead of timing their drops. A part of learning the game is learning to use those power ups and the proper time to use them. You may not get the ones you want but that's a part of it, having a tactic for each item. Of course there are people with fancy bombing placements but they're easy to intercept and mess up, why? Because it's predictable and they use the same style for every bomb they get instead of adapting to each bomb's special ability. Half the time those players end up killing themselves because they get too complicated or mess up. I hate shields, they're annoying and get in the way of some real gameplay, and I've already stated how I think they should be fixed, but I know damn well to avoid people with shields until the wall starts coming. It's shit, but vanilla took awhile to appear and for a game that doesn't update I really don't see it in the near future. At this point for any Atelier games that aren't Transformice, it's either get used to it or leave. I guess, this depends on your gaming style and I've personally never seen you play Shadow, but I like speed and good timing and old Bouboum was really irritating to me with the horrible speed penalties and slow gameplay. I never found it competitive, and any players without a speed penalty could really annihilate you if they got more range and bombs than you. |

I played Bouboum when it was first on Transformice and to the end of it's life on Transformice then for quite a while when it was in Beta right up until the powers came out months ago. I've been playing the game for quite a long time and I honestly prefered Transformice's version over the Beta version overall just because it felt balanced in my opinion and you actually had to rely on trapping your opponents or tricking them. Transfering over to the Beta version was already hard enough for me considering the games complete change in movement and other things, as well as speed penalties. Speed penalties were another thing that made this game near unplayable fort the more experienced players as they'd have ridiculously high penalties. Coming back to this everyday was rather annoying and honestly I can relate some of the powers to it. Being slowed down makes you an easy target and there's honestly no way to avoid it half the time unless the person either doesn't go for you or you're just lucky to have avoided it (Especially if it were Vampire). Kamikazi is yet another one of those power ups that annoy /everyone/. It's near unavoidable sometimes considering how fast the bombs go off and the user's speed boost. While usually it doesn't work half the time, just mix it with a shielder and call it free kills. The only power-ups that are honestly okay with me are Zombie, Banana, Bomb push, Bonus, and Hazelnut+. While you may be saying that Zombie is technically a speed penalty, you have the choice of using it and take the risk of losing the match when you do. I also just want to mention that by old Bouboum I'm usually refering to the Transformice version which had no penalties and powers. People are always going to complain about being killed over Bouboum and that newer players are being over-looked in the older version but honestly you don't usually know how to Bootcamp your first day on Transformice. I've been poking and discussing this game for so long I honestly forgot the last gameplay update it actually had. While I've learnt not to play; I still haven't learnt how to let a good game go. I don't really think you'll be seeing my playstyle but it's pretty simple to say that I don't use powers and just rely on placement and sniping rather then getting close and trapping. All in all, the power ups just really don't fit well with the game in my opinion and ever since they were added Bouboum's playerbase has slowly dropped more and more. I'm just waiting for the day when Boubom becomes a ghost town like it did on Transformice. Let's not forget how sweep destroyed a lot of tactics and how the general skill of players has amounted to spamming bombs as they explode just to win. I swear, this game isn't as good as it was and probably never will be again. |
