Map Crew Applications

Also, Pik is not a mapmaker and happens to be a complete nobody. I've personally never heard of Jraton or Jzhang prior to their hirings either, and Browndown is a name I've seen perhaps once prior. I don't believe this is a popularity contest, it just happens that people who are more involved in maps TEND to be so involved that you notice them more. It makes sense, doesn't it?

There's no need to stir more pots, I'm sure you have already stirred a few that you shouldn't have. If you think that there's a person that shouldn't be there for whatever reason may be, bring it up with Barry/Cptp.

That said, someone's name being raised a few times for Px considerations do get some consideration when their application is considered. If that's not the case, then the map reviewing part of the application can compensate for that.

I think you read fxie's comment wrong, or you commented to the wrong quote. She was disproving the point that popular mice get in the mapcrew. Although a bit cynical, but still. ^^

Also not the admins choose the mapcrew members. It is the mapcrew who chooses them. Which ofcourse includes moderators (the ones that feel like it).

Although it is true that mapcrew and moderators vote/decide on who to hire from applications, unless things have changed drastically, the admins (via Sydoline) still oversee the whole process and ultimately have the final say on whether someone is hired or not.

That being said, in the time I was a part of the team, I never saw someone get hired purely because of admins voting them in. The admin involvement is moreso to do with rejections based on behaviour etc.

Also I know the admins used to be more involved and gradually have become less involved with time (due to workload or whatever other reasons which have caused them to prioritise), so excuse me if this is not so much the case anymore.

Although I am not in the map crew now, me being accepted into the map crew is proof this is not the case. Being from a sub-community which has a bad reputation with moderators in game, I didn't think I stood a chance to be hired. I am not a "pro" player and only had one or two higher Px perms at the time. I was given a fair chance through the process and was judged for my application and my behaviour (not for the behaviour of the group I am often associated with).

The team at the time was fair and hirings were the least bias out of all staff areas. The team has changed quite a lot since then, but based on some of the more recent hirings, it seems that the fairness in considerations for applicants is still fairly legitimate.

I was calling Pik a complete nobody jokingly (as they do themselves in their tribe threads), saying I never heard of you as proof not only popular mice get accepted (because it's true: I never heard of you), and I don't think there was any ambiguity in my closing statement that proficient mapmakers are quite obviously more involved with maps.

I'm unsure how *you* read it, but I am a bit offended that it was with negative connotation. Do you see my name and automatically think what I say will be bad?

Oh, you did not understand me right. I did not want to say that someone is worthless for the mapcrew or something like that, or fxie did not mean it too. Just, in my eyes, I see it a bit unfair why a people who can judge well, have a few(lets say about 10) perm maps cannot join the team. That is my opinion.. Sorry If someone misunderstood me.

If you're under 18, then leave map crew, is it possible to rejoin as one who was already on staff, or do you fit into the group of "new". (If I ever rejoin, it won't be for a long time, but I'm just curious.)

The 18+ rule applies to new recruits, so yes, you would be considered a "new recruit". :(
