My Map Making Journey; The Story |
9 | ||
OVERVIEW I have had many different accounts on this game with many different maps and stories. With this thread I hope to be able to share these while also keeping track of my progress as a map maker. I felt that it would be boring just to show all the maps so I decided to share it as a story. Each chapter will be for one account sharing my inspirations and aspirations at that time. Chapters will be added periodically so everyone has something new to read when they come back to this thread. If you just want to see my maps, you can go to the last tab "My Maps" to see them. I hope you can learn something from this whole thing and of course, enjoy my story! Changelog 12/11/2018 - Thread Created 13/11/2018 - Chapter 3 Added CHAPTER 1: IROXLIKEHELL The journey begins in 2011, when a young girl by the name of Iroxlikehell was inspired by maps she saw in normal rooms. She had an admiration for "Shamming" and always loved it when she had the chance to become the shaman on a build map. After awhile she started to notice the map makers' names. Epifistu, Vinbear, Epifistu again, and again... Who is this Epifistu? Why did he have so many maps playing over and over again? Turns out he wasn't anyone special, he wasn't an admin or a moderator. His maps were just good, and many were made Prime Permanent Maps (p2). This became the catalyst to the start of Iroxlikehell's map making journey. She wanted to be as good as her idol with people having fun playing her maps. After she finally collected 1000 cheese, it began with this. @1078967 Yes it was terrible but it was a start. She had an open mind and took criticism from friends she showed it to. She kept improving her map with the help of people from something called "Mapcrew". Apparently they were the ones who made Epifistu's maps p2. Wait, hold on... Isn't Epifistu in Mapcrew? Maybe that's why he has so many p2 maps! This demolished her confidence after realising the map isn't going to be permanent. However, she continued making shaman maps with different obstacles but to no avail. Maybe making shaman maps isn't her forte, maybe she should try making other maps. That's when she realised, there's other parts to Transformice other than being a shaman. What if she focused on the mice instead? @1223546 Much more people enjoyed this as compared to any of her shaman maps. However, it still wasn't good enough to be permanent. At this point, new categories were added such as Shaman Maps (p4) and No-Shaman Maps (p7). p2 was also removed as most of them belonged in p4. More importantly, p1 was changed from Permanent Maps to Protected Maps. The guidelines for this category were very easy to follow. Just don't break any rules and be enjoyable. This made it so much easier for people to have a "Permanent Map". Then it happened. @1574315 Her first p1 map! This might be a small feat for many map makers out there but for her it was a step in the right direction. After so long, a map of hers was finally recognised by the almighty Mapcrew. This motivated her to make many more maps of a similar form and managed to get 12 more p1 maps. But she craved more. It felt so good to have these maps in the rotation but she was rarely seeing them in-game. She wanted a higher perm map, and she got the chance. @2220403 Kenjit, a mapcrew member, really liked this map. He wanted to make it p7, but some edits would have to be made to the map. Iroxlikehell listened and followed all the advice given, but after a few hours of back and forth editing and testing, it wasn't meant to be. The public simply didn't enjoy the map enough to be able to make the map p7. It stayed as p1. With this, Iroxlikehell gave up and decided to quit map making. She had put in all her effort into getting at least 1 high perm map, but failed. : 13 CHAPTER 2: THENOOBRIOX Iroxlikehell decided to come back to map making but with a new persona, Thenoobriox. By this time she spent a large amount of time playing the gamemode Racing after it was made official. So of course, she made racing maps. What's more is that she found out one of her old maps on Iroxlikehell became an official Racing Map (p17) from a YouTube video. @1664002 This proved to her that she can make more maps that will be played in racing rooms. She wanted to challenge herself, so she tried making maps with only 40x40 grounds. Sadly many others had this idea too and this meant her maps didn't stand out. At this point she found a YouTube Channel by Impuredeath where she learnt many new mechanisms. Sadly none of these maps managed to get even a p1. Then she found a new minigame. /room shaman. She found out all the maps in this room were hard for the shaman, and she was determined to beat them. This reignited her passion for building and also for making shaman maps. She took one of her old maps and added "no-red nail" to increase the difficulty. @4539773 This started her /room shaman map making spree where she made tons of maps that even she could not complete. Sadly, being an unexperienced player in the new minigame, she wasn't able to make maps which were enjoyable to sham on. She also found out about bootcamp and started making maps for that. @4564036 Can you spot the shortcut? Hilarious I know, but she didn't know. She just wanted to make maps even when she was unexperienced in the gamemode. She soon realised this and started focusing on playing the game, instead of making more maps. After a while, she got tired of the game and left once again, this time without a single permanent map. CHAPTER 3: APPRISE "I'm tired of being a girl!" Seems weird but since we're in a mouse game, Thenoobriox started afresh again, this time as a boy. Apprise was the name, and after playing in racing and /room shaman and for half a year, he decided it's time to start making maps for those minigames again. @5540033 Wow a p1 map! That was fast, but it wasn't what he was aiming for. He wanted a higher perm. After many failed attempts, he was ready to give up once again. But he just started and there has to be another way to get what he wanted. At this point someone had told him that he should submit some of the maps for other categories. After all, he only attempted p4, p7 and p17 so far. And so he did, submitting one of his map to p9. @5540027 It wasn't accepted, but the review game him confidence. "@5540027 - Apprise - Interesting map but gameplay is really short. Most mice don't understand it's a soloable map at first, so they'll basically depend on shaman's help." by Kinhusxd. All the past reviews have been "generic, boring" or something of the sort, so having someone say that his map was interesting pushed him to continue making maps. He made maps with a similar concept but alas, none got permed. So he went back to making maps for /room shaman. Sadly, his maps was always inspired by other shaman maps which made him unable to create original maps. Rooms then started to become filled with maps with grounds placed randomly. Apprise wanted a piece of the action and used random.org to create a map. @5571359 Of course, this is not how good maps are made and it led him nowhere. He also made many different variations to each map hoping one of them would be good enough to be permanent. @5611396, @5611399, @5611408 Sadly this method didn't work at all, in fact it just prevented him from submitting different maps for review. He started taking inspiration from everywhere, even turning existing p4 maps into soulmate maps. Then came the November-December 2014 Official MapMaking Contest. Apprise decided to submit a map for Category 2: No shaman map with multiple spawns. @5615464 The map utilised the concept of multiple spawns well but with so many other map makers, some of which have won multiple contest, Apprise knew he didn't stand a chance. That is until the shortlist came out. Killerlux a dit : He actually had a chance! That was what he thought, until he saw the other names. All of the other shortlisted participants made great maps, some of whom are famous map makers. Apprise had no expectation for himself, even going as far as saying "Wow big names... *Less than 0% chance of winning*". He was right. Killerlux won, with Jamiison second and Paradoxxoo third. Apprise didn't manage to be in the top 3 of 7 participants. That devastated him, and he tried to make it permanent in any way, as p7, p19 or even p1. But it wasn't happening, how is a shortlisted map not even worthy of being protected? All of this was just false hope, he can't make a map worthy of a high perm. He decided to just try for p19, adding those video screens onto many of his maps to see if any were worthy of p19. None were. This demolished his confidence and passion and thus another chapter of his journey ends. : 1 Dernière modification le 1542118440000 |
