So i've been wanting to make a thread about this for a while now but i've never been sure about how much discussion would actually occur. Let's give it a go nevertheless!

This is a thread discussing headphones and speakers and hi-fi setups and anything else that relates to reproducing music. It dosn't matter what you own or what level of an Audiophile you rate yourself as (or even if you don't) feel free to contribute and discuss what you like to listen to music with!

One of the loves in my life is music, and reproducing it as brilliantly as possible. Headphones are currently my weapon of choice, and right now my pride and joys are AKG 242HD's for headsets (I also own a pair of Sure Srh840's for travelling) and a pair of Sony Xba4's as earbuds. I also own Klipsch X10, Klipsch X5 and Monster Turbine's depending on what I want to listen to.

I've been tossing up investing in some studio monitors but I can't justify them quite yet.

So what do you have? What would your dream set-up be like? Are you completely content with your Apple earbuds and don't care about anything else? Share with us! DO EEET!

I dont usually use earbuds or headphones:

I saw an ad in a subway which said that people who use earbuds are most likely to go to the doctor and say they have hearing problems(no offence) But i still use them sometimes. Oh the ad also ad a slogan which i(surprise surprise) forgot
I have the iFun earbuds , but as i said i dont usually use them

Are Beats worth it

I mean I'm honestly happy with my studio big-ass sony headphones, but Beats look so sharp and easy to carry around

I own two pairs of headphones, the Samson SR850s and Sennheiser HD428s. I personally prefer the Samsons I have since they provide a clearer, crisper sound and the soundstage is fairly decent, but it can leak sound since it's open-canned and the highs are somewhat tiring. At The Sennheisers I have are fairly cheap and good, and sounds smooth, but a bit more vague than my Samsons, and the wire is weakly thin. I'm satisfied with both headphones. You can get really good headphones ~$50. I'm not much of an audiophile so I probably won't spend >$100.

I don't use any amps since my headphones have low impedance, and needs little power to drive, but I heard FiiOs were good. Some good brands of headphones I heard were Shure, AKG, Audio-Technica, Sony, Sennheiser, B&W, and Beyerdynamics, Klipsch, etc.

Although this is purely anecdotal, most of what I heard is the Beats and Bose are overpriced from hyped mainstream popularity, but they are not complete trash and have some merit in them. But, you can buy better headphones for the same price. There are cheaper alternatives that can rival those two brands, maybe.

Head-Fi is a good place to search for good headphones for audiophile fans, but you have to know some terminology and concepts to understand some of what they're talking about.

For music use Beats

For gaming use Tritton.
I thought i'd say Tritton even though this is more based on music then gaming just in case anyone comes after and asks the question.

Shinark a dit :
For music use Beats

I'd admit Beats look great but the bottom line is that they're overpriced, have heavy, muddy, bass that is distorting, has poor durability and creaky due to the plastic material (pre-new studios, idk how they've done with the remakes)

For quality check out some reputable brands like as mentioned Audio-Technica, AKG, Sennheiser, Beyerdynamic, Shure. Sony, Panasonic, Phillips are decent brands, while brands like Skullcandy, Monster, Beats are fashion accessories.

I own Audio Technica ATH-M50's, one of the most precise sounding cans for its price (seen it as low as $110 - 190 on Amazon). Definitely lives up to its reviews.

I also received Jaybird Bluebuds X as a gift from a friend, AMAZING for exercising and going incognito, as the earbuds are bluetooth with a short cord that wraps around the back of your head, so I stuff the cord in my beanie or whatever hat. Girls can use their hair to conceal the wires too. The buds can get pretty pricey (upwards of $160). Battery life is about 6 hours

I'll agree with you but the new ones or 'remakes' fix this.
