Otakus meaning is different on the way you want to understand it :/

Otaku means being obssesed towards anime
if you think you like/love anime its not an insult cause its a good thing and ur pround of being obsses about anime but if you think anime is lame/boring then it will be an insult since you dont want anime and you're being called an otaku.

We have different point of views so just deal with it :D
If you will take things good/compliment when you're being insulted then life gets better :) <3
