under constructions will keep on adding new facts Basically im not asking questions hence im making this thread to discuss ^^ on my fav topic. As the topic suggests its all about space. We can talk of only space and atronomy here no other topics please. questions can be asked by anyone answered by any one ^^ Dont be shy do speak up Also if i write something wrong plz do inform me RULES:- ~No putting down others. ~No posts that are inappropriate to read for our younger members ~No offensive posts! Forum rules apply so no harassing, flaming, cursing,... ~Don't spam random useless letters, such as dhfnjsdikhnfsdifnisd. This includes the oh-so-random alphabet. ~Don't simply post useless things such as dots, commas, whatsoever. At least try to make your post a little bit meaningful. ~Don't discuss who other people are. This is not a rumor mill, it is a public forum viewable by all. Go meet the person instead. ~ Talk of space only Okay so let me start. We are alwasy in search of planets with can sustain life forms or be the place where they can thrive. For this mission Kepler was launched. Kepler is a satalite by NASA its aim is to find planets pereferably planets on with things can survive. So, how does it do so? A planet when revolutes its star for some times make the light dim. in other words take a light bulb switch it on and move your hand in front of it does your hand not obstruct the light? This happens for planets too. this is known as TRANSIT. Kepler looks out for transits. within 7 weeks of launch it found 600 planets. But none of them were in habitable zone. what should be there for a planet to be habitable and whats habitable zone. A planet should have carbon, water in its liquid form, land and energy probably by a star. Habitable zone is the best distance from a star in which a life form can evoolve due to comfortable or say liveable temperature. the closer the planet to star the more the temp the farther it is the less the temp. If a planet revolutes very fast it means that its near to star if it revolutes too slow it means its too away so we need a planet with one revolution roughly equal to one year of earth. Which planets are simply out of this list of being able to be place of home? The planets with star as red giants they are a lot bigger than earth and very bright so this means they also use up energy very fast so they dont give enough time for a species to evolve and before that are destroyed. The stars with two or more stars together are also out they cant provide stable enviroment. they constitute half of our milkyway galaxy ! and they are all out. But exceptions are there kepler 22 is a double star solar system which has a planet kepler 22 b which is fully made of water and can have organisms. Also a big size planet is usually just a ball of gas so we need smaller planets roughly size of earth. so the stars should either be size of our sun or red dwarf but red dwarfs are only 10-20% size of sun and give only 10-20% enregy as much as of sun. Solution was simple a planet near to it shall get hore heat we had found one such planet but it was tidally locked ie there is no day no noght! The star is pulled by its star and does not move on its axis so one side is very cold and one is hot only the thin line between the two is place where one can acctually live Keplers biggest achivement is finding KOI 701 a star which has planet KOI 701.04 which is thought to be liveable and is in liveable zone with water and land ! How are stars made? This is due to war b/w energy and gravity. First let me say whats a nebula. Nebula is a clouud of dirt[ it looks like so] with amazing colours acctually its gasses like helium oxygen etc which are glowing due to very high temp. like oxygen glows with green light. ok so what happens is this gasses have mass obv. gravity tries to make them come together and compress it while the gasses want to expand and move away. but the gasses loose the war gravity wins and compesses them. Due to this lots of energy is produced gases are compresed by gravity and produce heat due to friction. This energy rises and ultimately a star is born. How do stars die? In very big stars Star make energy by a chemical reaction known as fusion [ we use it in controlled manner in earth to create immense electricity in nuclear power station.] there is another reaction known as fission but we need not know of it here. by fussion hydrogen gives out energy and makes helium. now helium gives energy and makes oxygen and carbon they make heavier metals like silicon and magnesium. They make iron. when iron is made it doesnt give out any energy and core starts to become of iron now the gravity is again trying to compress the whole thing and since there is no more energy the star compresses and blasts making an super nova. OR compresses so much that it sucks itself in sucks time sucks the light and everything ie becomes a blackhole. In smaller stars like our sun death is slow and not so much dramatic they will use up all helium and their crust wears off and a small blast turns the star to a supernova. |
