Sad story, I feel ya ;-;

I've never been grounded before, my parents had different ways of punishing me and my brothers. Such as not at all. My brother left scars on my arm from when he got really pissed off at me one time, and he didn't get in trouble, not in the slightest.

I got grounded for:

-swearing
-staying out too late
-stealing
-lying
-being the oldest (yeah that makes sense)
-getting in the way
-not doing my chores
-not feeding the dog(s)

For cussing alot in Skype with my other pals XD I was 10 back then when it happened.

I don't get grounded, and I doubt my mum would know what it means anyway. :V

What is grounding? I just got beat whenever I fucked up.

-trying to firebend and burning my hand

Sometimes I just get beaten up by my parents ad no grounding at all...

My experience is similar to what Haruhi said. My parents don't really think grounding is effective, they prefer to discipline you when you've made a mistake, instead of simply grounding.

When I said my mum doesn't know what grounded is, does being slapped count?? That's her way of punishing me, and has been since I was a baby.

For not keeping my grades up, god, I hate being grounded for that. I get grounded until I get a decent Report Card.
Other times I get grounded for a few days just for being a total jerk.
