If you guys do realise that this challenge is overtaking all your social media apps and your news feed? You aren't dreaming but they are doing it for a cause.

So, what is this challenge all about?

It is a challenge with involves one to overturn the bucket full of ice and water. Before that, that person has to announce that he/she has accepted the challenge. Then, he/she gets to nominate (usually people would nominate 3 people but you can nominate more than that) others to do the challenge and that nominated person has to do the challenge within 24 hours if not, that person has to do a forfeit by donating money to the foundation. Not only that, participants have to have a video footage of the challenge in a continuous footage.

When and how did it go viral?

It went viral during summer in the Northern Hemisphere and it went viral through our social networking websites and soon, it became a pop culture sensation. It has an unknown origin from mid 2013 to early 2014 and it was originally called the 'Cold Water Challenge'.

What's ALS?

ALS has it's full name called Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis and in the United States, it is known as Lou Gehrig's disease. Lou Gehrig was a baseball player and there was once that he announced his diagnosis and that was when it was known. It is characterised by muscle spasticity, rapidly progressive weakness due tomuscle atrophy, difficulty in speaking, swallowing, and breathing. This degeneration of the cells and neurons eventually causes them to die. Once they die, the brain can no longer control or initiate muscle movement, and patients of the disease can become totally paralyzed. Patients can die within two to five years after being diagnosed. This disease is considered scary!!! Its great to have more attention about this disease.

Who started this viral trend?

The challenge was started by a man from Massachusetts named Pete Frates and has lived this ALS since 2012. Since then, he has been working with the ALS Association on spreading awareness. He posted his video about this challenge and shared it to Twitter and Facebook to his family and since then, it went viral.

So, anyone of you here can post videos of yourself or your friends doing the challenge! Alternatively, you can post your favourite videos with your favourite celebrities!

i haven't been nominated to do this yet.
a lot of people are just doing it for fun, like the cinnamon challenge rather than donating money. i've only seen one person post saying that they would donate instead of dumping ice water on themselves.

It's rather sad that these celebrities with tons of money aren't donating. People like Justin Bieber, Lady Gaga, etc only poured water over their heads. 15 million dollars raised. It might sound great, but with this many people doing it, its rather horrible.
The only celebrities hinting its about helping donating to ALS people is pretty much Charlie Sheen and Bill Gates.

I still don't think this is good idea nor is healthy for you, sending your body through an icey shock can be dangerous given the right person. I'd just donate, like really, dumping a bucket of ice over your head to donate when you can donate right away? Ain't nobody got time for that.

Before you do this make sure you're 100% healthy and keep someone around to make sure nothing goes wrong. I've provided a link detailing further into the matter.

It's made for good intentions but it's a stupid challenge.

Very cold water can be dangerous for the health because of the quick temperature's changement of the person who does this challenge, i'm not sure their heart appreciate that ( he also could receive the bucket on the head for the unlucky people :a )
