  • Hi There!
  • Shading

http://i.imgur.com/3YnMrs9.png

Welcome to my tutorials! I was kindly given permission by Icewolfbob to make a tutorial thread here on digital drawing and whatnot. So thank you very much!

Here I will be showing you what I've learned whilst using a drawing tablet, and I will also give you a few tips and tricks to help! n_n

Who knows, maybe you'll become popular (if you're not already)!

Warning that each tab has a lot of information for you to take in, so be prepared to read a lot!

I will slowly be adding onto this thread if people would like me to. Right now it's just a simple thread which I need to plan out. But if you have any ideas, please comment below on what you think I should help others with!

Notice: If you ask for a request here, advertise your art thread, or spam something which isn't related to this thread, your comment will be removed! You have been warned!

I've met a lot of people who's styles are very unique, but they cant seem to figure out why no one really pays attention to their art. And sometimes they ask me to point out what's wrong. I take a quick look and I always have to note down the shading, because it just seems so boring!

So I'm going to try and fix that!

Picking a colour which is close to your lineart colour gives your drawing a more natural look to it!
Once you've got your colour, you now need to add shading!

Now, you've got your colour, yes? That's great! Now let's see our shading options, hmm?

Here is an example which I did with a colour palette! Notice I have used a different range of blues to help me get out the best of my drawing.
There is a good way to use colour palettes, but that will be explained in another tutorial!

Now, onto a more important bit which is something we all definitely need to cover.

Here is a doodle with shading and lighting. I am going to point out to you what you should and shouldn't do.

Since the light source is coming from the left, my lighting and shading would be correct.

However

if the light source were to come in from the right, my lighting and shading would be wrong, because it is not placed in the right area (okay maybe apart from the tail).

Make sure you know exactly which direction your light source is coming from. How embarrassing would it be if the sun was on the right side of your drawing and you put the light reflections on the left!

I think that will do for today! I will add more on, tomorrow. But it's getting late and I need to start on a commission. I hope you all enjoy this, because it was a real toughie trying to make it!

Question, is it okay to give out opinions like if I don't like the way your way of teaching that specific thing on art?
Like, if I don't approve your way of teaching something when there could be a better way on explaining it?

Err, not really. You can always give your opinion but you cant just blurt out that you disapprove.
1. That's considered rude!
2. People may disagree and get into an argument with you, and that's not what this thread is for!

I can certainly change some stuff for you if you wish, but not all of it. I don't work by instructions.
