one of my friends named yotam (boundaryfuss on rateyourmusic) from new zealand has been getting me into a variety of music that i absolutely adore. they made a list on rym called "futuristic music hall" which is named after a phrase that Piero Scaruffi, an Italian music reviewer coined.

basically, pop/rock music audibly (or visibly) filtered through cabaret, vaudeville, kitsch, tin pan alley, British music-hall, classic pop, radio theater, "highbrow vocalizing", broadway, carnival music, artsong, operetta, general flamboyance, et al. in other words, massively theatrical pop music.

Paristetris, a Polish experimental rock/pop group are one of the many on that list. i'm glad i discovered them.
