I don't know if this is too a political thread, but I feel this really needs to be discussed. So this Wednesday, climate change denigher Rupert Murdoch, bought National Geographic, one of the most educational magazines in the world, solely based off actual scientific studies, and now it's owned by Fox. :( This in my mind is one of the most upsetting things that has ever happened this year, I can hardly believe a nonprofit organization such as the National Geographic Society, would sell off their magazine. Let alone to Fox, who is a for-profit organization, that has been caught in lies, more lies, and more and more lies. They sold it for $725 million. They own 73% of National Geographic now. Before now National Geographic was a trustable magazine source for interesting things or issues happening all around the planet. I do not feel as though it is a trustable source of information anymore, and I'm very sad to see this happen. You Can Find Out More About This Here Please discuss your feelings about this, what you think the new National Geographic will be like, will it be bad? Will it stay the same? And please keep the thread as little about politics as possible. Dernière modification le 1442268300000 |

Fritomouse a dit : brings new meaning to honey Edit: I'm not entirely sure if the image in the OP is fake. Can anyone confirm if the image is real or not? Dernière modification le 1442212860000 |

I'm confident the picture is a fake. If you can find it actually uploaded from NGC's site it may be another story, but this is just another pic from imgur. As for the buyout, would it have been better if the magazine was discontinued entirely? From what I understand they were in serious financial trouble. |

Lemodile a dit : It definitely would've been if they wanted to keep their dignity and integrity as a bastion of the scientific community (and die honourably in a blaze of glory). However it's apparent that big money makes big statements. |

I'd say the image is fake. The date isn't supposed to be on the yellow line. Dernière modification le 1442218740000 |

I'm pretty sure the image is fake. Though looks like the buyout itself is legit unfortunately. Dernière modification le 1442226000000 |

i think the magazine in the OP is fake. and "rising sea levels give more room for whales to swim!" is one of the dumbest things ive ever heard. OBVIOUSLY whales will have more room to swim if more water is coming. |

National Geographic was already going downhill for the past few years, although Discovery went to shit first before NatGeo. Neither of them have been scientific for a while now, because they're both fueled by sensationalism - being emotions, not facts or logic. This isn't new. If you want to experience the good ole' days of Discovery or National Geographic, try to find their stuff (like documentaries) from the early 2000's or before. I grew up on the old networks and it made me the snake keeping, wildlife wrangling geek I am today. God, and I cannot emphasize enough that I hate what Discovery is now. I have a passionate hatred for them. (Discovery also owns Animal Planet, the History Channel, and a few others by the way, so that includes them.) Fritomouse a dit : Despite what I just said, I find this lulz worthy. Dernière modification le 1442267580000 |

Lemodile a dit : Removed the pic since it's not real, seems more like satire. Someone predicting the headlines that will come out of this. I'm not mad that they sold the magazine I'm not mad that it's a for profit organization instead of a nonprofit now I'm mad they sold it to this guy, National Geographic isn't the kind of magazine for someone who doesn't even realize Climate Change is real. This is disappointing to hear. I've always enjoyed reading their magazines and now it is owned by something that is absolutely horrible. Basgetti a dit : The gameplay won't be any different. National Geographic is only a small aspect of the game and contributes very little value towards the actual game. They barely even focus on education there, anyways.
