No answer because I dont think any of these is correct. Parents know more, they are older. The education is better now, but that doesn't change that they went through more things. Even if I knew how to speak 15 languages fluently, I would still say that my parents are smarter, even if they got only bad grades at school. |

It depends on what you define as being smart. Is it being intelligent? There are a lot of different definitions for intelligence, each with their own merits. Is it about being wise? In that case, perhaps a more fair question would be if we're smarter than our parents were at our age. And even then the answer isn't so simple. Is it about being educated? Education has changed quite drastically, depending on where your live and in some cases on your social economic background (and many many other factors but I digress). Sometimes to a point that the entire goal of education on certain levels has changed. Is that still comparable? I guess I'll end the monologue now and vote yes and no :-) Edit: somehow I accidentally stickied this. It obviously was an accident so can we please all pretend no one saw it? :3 thanks Dernière modification le 1449178800000 |

i've seemed to know a lot more 'logic' than my mom in some arguments with her which im basically saying that im right in most situations, i dont even know if that makes me 'smart' tho but i really have no clue so going with the bottom choice why is this thread stickied lmfao Dernière modification le 1449177360000 |

I may not have the learned intelligence from life experience or years of university like my guardians have, but if there's one thing I know for certain it is that I have more common sense than them. They both have their own faults and it's more because of how they lack common sense or logic to put behind their education. They're educated, but can they use it? No, not really. When we're arguing it's very evident that they don't know how to quip back. Parents are smarter due to their wisdom, but I think the generations now and to come will be smarter in common sense. It's unfair to compare because parents have already been on the planet for longer than their offspring. They have had different experiences which made them learn what they know. THIS THREAD IS OBVIOUSLY IMPORTANT ENOUGH TO BE STICKIED. |

Yes we must pay attention to this thread! Anyways, what do you mean by smart? They could be more wiser than me since they've been through more like what Lemo said, but then since education has changed I would get more educated. Although they still have more knowledge than me. |

More progressive? Generally, yes. Smarter? Eh, it's debatable. In terms of experience, your parents will have a lot more of it than you. In terms of intelligence, it's a lot more split. |

Maleguest a dit : I agree completely. It isn't our education that makes us smart, it's our experiences and the problems we've faced in the past that really help us learn. Our schools/colleges only teach us minor things that we'll need to use in life-- how to write properly and how to do complicated math problems. |

Lilytenten a dit : But that's where intellect and experience come into place. Both are equally important, but theyre different sorts of intelligence. Our parents have more experience in life, but we could possibly grow up to be smarter than them because of modern education. It doesnt make us more experienced, but we'd more intelligent in the area of science, history, and mathematics, which arent 'minor' if your goal is going to a high class college or being an engineer |

Education is still largely based on the system that was introduced during the industrial revolution, so it's arguable whether it's improved enough in the past few decades to make a real difference. There's also minuscule increase in average intelligence between generations as our brains are still getting larger, but that's only noticeable within the span of multiple generations. What really puts our generation apart from our parents is that we're the first ones to have grown with having all the knowledge of the world at our fingertips. Whatever question pops into your mind, you can check the answer for it within minutes from anywhere in the world and whatever new skill you want to learn, there's probably a free course online. No one else has ever had that kind of privilege before. Use it and maybe you'll become smarter than your parents. Dernière modification le 1449451200000 |
