You probably saw that the staff members had to deal with a huge number of double-posts.

Suggestion: To avoid multiple-posts on forum, after you publish a message on a thread, you can't post another message right after your last one. Someone else has to comment after you, and then you can post your new message, so there won't be any double/triple/multiple posts.

Sorry for any mistakes, english isn't my first language, ya know.

Despite the fact that this would get rid of a ton of forum reports we get and make the job as a sentinel easier, I don't really agree with this idea on a user-level. Some comments I have on it:

  • There are lots of times people need to genuinely post things twice in a row and it's not breaking any rules (such as posting a new map they've made in their map thread, posting news about something, or have very long posts that need to be organised and split up). Personally I find it a pain when I need to genuinely post multiple times in a row on a forum (on CheeseForMice for an example) but simply can't.
  • The interface as it currently is doesn't really show that posts can be edited. A lot of people aren't even aware that you can click on your username/avatar to get separate options, let alone that the option to edit a post is there. This can easily be improved upon.
  • Rather than automatically merging people's last posts, I would like to see a prompt before it makes the post, something like "You were the last person to post in this thread, are you sure you want to post again, or would you like to merge this with your last post?" This could then have separate buttons to merge with the last post automatically, or post it as a separate reply.
  • From a moderation point of view as a sentinel, it can be a bit of a pain because we have to manually edit someone's post and then remove the other one - this might not seem like much but to make sure the formatting is correct and with how slow the forums can be at times, this can be quite time consuming when doing it on several posts. It would be a lot easier for us if we simply had a way to select two posts and automatically merge them.

Shamousey a dit :

I can support this option.
