The Game in General

Vindictus is an MMORPG that is developed by devCAT and published by NEXON. Despite NEXON's reputation for making games a poor experience, this one is actually quite decent. This MMORPG has a generally nice community and is filled with different aspects similar to many other MMORPGs. However, there are some key differences that make this MMORPG a bit less generic. The main aspect is the Combat. As you attack enemies and relax with friends, you'll find yourself completing a plethora of quests, unlocking more of the storyline and having fun.

The game may seem easy and quick progressing at first, but towards levels 60 - 70 the game is supposed to be very difficult and it may force you to learn enemy attack patterns more thoroughly to succeed. In these levels your use of gear and tactic is most crucial compared to before where gear is less significant and you could take hits from bosses. This game's fast paced combat makes hit easy to pick up, but later harder to master.

The Community

The Community is, as mentioned previously, generally nice. Forming parties to complete quests is a pleasant experience and a nice way to meet friends. The only down part is the lack of community compared to other MMORPGs. Vindictus has a small community in its servers. Its servers depend on where you are, for the United States, there are servers East, West, and Australia each with their own communities respectively. The Europe server is unfortunately not as active, and the most active server at the moment is US West. It is recommended you play in servers such as US West or US East for a larger community as the game is best experienced with other players to party with, chat with, etc.

Combat

The Combat is faster than other MMORPGs and is also real-time. It's a balance between dodging, attacking, using skills, using buffs, and for some characters, blocking or counter-attacking. This all runs on the factor of Stamina, but don't be fooled, Health is also a key factor to keep yourself alive in situations where you can't use Stamina.

  • Movement
  • is obviously the basics to not only combat, but also just simply...well...moving! You will use the WASD keys by default to move around.

    W - forwards
    A - left
    S - backwards
    D - right

Sprinting/Running is something you will be doing with Left Shift, however, remember that Sprinting is only available in Combat or on a Mission, you can't do it normally when out of Combat or a Mission.

Excluding normal movements, you can do gestures or poses using your F4 - F11 keys.

  • Fighting
  • will consist of many different things as there are different ways to attack. You can Pick things up and Throw them or just use them to Regularly Attack or Smash Attack. Using your own personal arsenal of weapons you can also use Regular Attacks or Smash Attacks and if you have Skills you can also use those. When it comes to armor breaking, you'll need to repair your armor if you want to or heal up from damage taken. If your party member has been incapacitated you might want to revive them with items.

LM Click - Regular Attack, can be stringed for combos
RM Click - Smash Attack, can be used as a combo to follow up a regular attack Try LM Clicking a different amount of times in a row and then using a RM Click, you may get different results depending on how you string combos
R - Kick This is used for finishing enemies that are incapacitated on the floor with the sign "Finish", other than that, it doesn't do much damage generally
Z - Set skill you can activate for an attacking skill or active buff/heal
X - Rotate between skills that can be used in combat
1 - 9 Keys - Hotkeys for items in your hotkey bar It is recommended you set potions/revival/repair items in these slots

E - pick things up (only if you can, of course)/obtaining drops from "cores" of enemies

Following up with E you can throw or attack with the object picked up.

LM Click - Attack enemy if you grabbed an enemy/Attack with object if you picked up an object
RM Click - Smash attack enemy if you grabbed an enemy/Smash attack with object if you picked up an object
E again - Standard throw (works with enemies and objects) The object/enemy will be thrown directly in the direction your screen is facing
F - Aim throw This will allow you to aim your throw of an object, it provides a red trail showing you the trail of the object being thrown

Of course, those are only the basics, by playing the game you will be free to experiment attacking, dodging, etc. at a fast pace against bosses and enemies.

The keys referred to are default keys

Content

Quests, like in any MMORPG, brings the story and game together. Setting goals and allowing you to progress efficiently through the game, Quests play one of the largest roles in Vindictus. Often times Quests will grant you rewards of EXP and Gold. Side-quests will let you learn more about the NPCs and also unlock additional content.

The Marketplace lets you sell things you find from Quests or obtain from Missions. It's an efficient way to save up for Gold that you would later use to buy Armor and Weapons. There's a good selection of items that can be used to craft, enhance, or enchant your gear. These can be found in the Marketplace if you don't wish to do the hard work yourself.

Customization is something that's a bit iffy in the game. There is a way to buy passes with Skill Points from completing Missions to customize your outfits and character, but if you're looking for permanent customizations you'll be looking at paid currency (NX) to buy permanent passes for certain customizations. Other than the beginning of creating your character, it'll be more difficult to change your character up later when the game has already begun. Excluding personal character decorating, there's pets that can even play roles in combat.

There's a lot of content that I have not explained, and that you'd need to research or play the game yourself to find. These were just some of the things I found important to the experience.

Characters

These are the characters you can play as and select at the beginning of creating a character. Their hair, physique, and other features can be changed around to your preference. Please note that some features can change how your character fights (range, carrying limit, etc.)

The Vindictus Wiki will give you further detail on characters than provided here.

Vella
Vella is a twin weapon user, she can use twin chainblades or twin swords. She has a lower defense/health build so she is not exactly a tank. She is, however, a strong attacker. Despite her low defense and health, her attack power and unique ability to counter-attack makes her a strong character to solo bosses. With this type of combo-based or often times burst-based attacking pattern, many players agree that upgrading your stamina cap and regeneration is a necessity.

Fiona
Fiona is a balanced character wielding a longsword or hammer with a shield. The shield grants her the ability to block attacks at the cost of damaging her shield, and if over-used, her shield can break mid-battle (not making total durability of the weapon 0). With her shield, she can follow up blocks with a counter-attack. She has great damage output and can also be used to solo bosses quite effectively.

Lann
Lann is a nimble character who wields twin swords or twin spears. His best position is close ranged to be used most effectively. Like Vella, he often times uses burst-based attacks and should not tank attacks from enemies. He can utilize his abilities to dash quickly out of the way to avoid injury. He must be very cautious as his style of fighting puts him in great risk of large amounts of damage sustained from enemies and especially bosses.

Evie
Evie is a versatile character who can change fighting styles drastically depending on what weapon she uses. She can wield a staff or scythe. With a staff, she is a great support character who can heal and deal damage from a safe range. However, casting spells drains her stamina very quickly. Scythe Evie doesn't do so great stamina-wise either. Wielding a scythe, Evie can deal physical damage, but she compromises most of her ability to use magic. In general, Evie has extremely low defense and health and is very fragile. She is best used as a support character.

Karok
Karok is a strong character for tanking and dealing large amounts of damage per attack. He uses pillars and cestuses as weapons and can even fist-fight when he is unarmed. His abilities to absorb damage and take less damage from enemies puts him in a perfect position to get up close and personal with strong enemies and tank their attacks while dealing damage to them at the same time. His evasiveness is non-existent which really forces him to tank attacks.

Hurk
Hurk is also an up-front fighter as his main role is a berserker, tanking and dealing hard hits like Karok. Hurk uses the greatsword for high damage output. His attacks cause his stamina to drain quickly, but he at least has some evasiveness to avoid some injury. He has great defense and offensive abilities that make him one of the characters who can survive against stronger enemies. His power and constant damage output can kill enemies quickly and efficiently.

Arisha
Arisha is a versatile character given that she wields a spellsword which allows her to do physical attacks and use magic. Her ability to throw a mana crystal to deal area-of-effect damage or teleport extends her versatility. If used properly and effectively, she can have one of the higher damage outputs amongst other characters. Many players agree that Intelligence is a necessity for Arisha. Her magic can attack from a range and her spellsword can deal normal attack combos.

Kai
Kai wields a bow primarily and a crossgun as a secondary. Both provide him ranged attacks, but his offensive attacks depend on an SP meter. This meter builds up quicker than other characters. Kai has great damage, but has most trouble with smaller fast-moving enemies as they are harder to hit. His evasiveness is decent as he can slide or roll when using a crossgun, out of harm's way. However, when using a crossgun he loses his ability to grapple his way from injury opposed to if he were just using a bow.

Lynn
Lynn uses a glaive and can deal damage all the while dodging swiftly. She is one of the most evasive characters since she has abilities based around dodging. Although she cannot grab, she has a skill in replacement which allows her to stun enemies and regenerate stamina to continue attacking later. She also has the ability to teleport behind enemies to follow up a dodge to attack yet again.

Sylas
Sylas is a phantom dagger wielder and can attack from a range. These attacks can handle multiple enemies at once effectively and keep him at a safe distance. He is forced to dodge instead of taking attacks head on due to his lack of defense, however with his ability to generate phantom shards, he can increase his damage after generating shards and using them to smash attack. He is great at taking on large masses of enemies.
