Who thinks racing is turning to bootcamp?

Some of the new maps in racing are getting extremely hard.

Some maps there would be about 30 people in the room, 5-10 afk, and only 3 would complete it.

What do you think?

I've never been able to do racing personally, dunno if I'm too noob or what.

(You can use Topic-215840 to complain about certain maps btw)

As far as I remember that's how the original room *racing was before it initially became official.

I kinda enjoy the harder maps, but some of them are just really frustrating and not fun at all.

It would've been fine if they kept the normal racing maps, but now it's a bunch load of wj, cj, ta etc

I've been calling racing the easier version of bootcamp to my friends so...
I'm okay with it all personally since I bootcamp too much but I wouldn't want something ridiculous to start showing up.

Don't mind the hard maps, I just hate how niche'ish the new maps have become. Basically, you can't do well in racing without memorizing the maps these days. It's got very little to do with actual skill/speed. Old racing was a lot more simple, you only needed speed and quick thinking to beat the room.

The same has happened to bootcamp too.

I think it's natural that maps have become harder, only because all the simple ideas have been done.

Though I agree with Prr, you can really see the difference. The older maps require skill/speed to complete, thus making it more like a race, but the newer more complicated ones are often just done to who has memorised the route.

There were and still are enough old racing maps where you needed to know the route as well, but oh well I can agree with Prr's statement. And. no I don't think racing is turining into bootcamp since I don't really see too hard maps? The thing that is stated in the OP about how only 3 can finish it-there are another 3-4 statoadders which just don't want to get in.

I really used to enjoy the racing, but it is getting harder. I think it was so that the cheese isn't so easy to get in those rooms.

I used to love racing because it was easy cheese and a enjoyable way to get cheese,hope the admins will give old racing back :/

So much this ^ That goes for maps as a whole as far as I'm concerned, but I notice it the most in racing. I miss early on when there were no "standards" for maps and no perm categories players hoarded as trophies. It didn't matter if a ground was one pixel off or mice spawned a couple pixels too high, things now regarded as imperfections were simply aspects of the map that you either adapted to on the fly or remembered for next time. A big part of the fun in racing is finding unintentional shortcuts, but far too many maps nowadays are so ironed-out and edited over and over until they're so perfect that there are none to be found.

I think it's good. So much of this game is just ping/memory based racing. Having more challenging maps that require players to think quickly and actually use some skill is refreshing. I can see why that would annoy most users that have a warped perception of how skilled they might be. Of course my opinion is biased because I usually have the worst ping/jitter in any given room d:

Have to agree with this.
There use to be a point where roughly 20-25% of racing maps had a shortcut, whether it was meant to be there or not. When they started being fixed, they became boring, espeically for maps that had shortcuts which were doable. The same thing has happened with Bootcamp unfortunatly, but i suppose people had to start creating maps without a flaw just to be up to the standards set.

Racing maps for the future are only going to get more difficult, once people find new ways of doing things, and new and more complex techniques. It's just a shame there's a fine line between challenging racers and making maps fun and unique. :(

I recently hopping in Racing to score some cheese fairly quickly and holy crap. I think in a 30min time frame I only completed 2 maps. Now I know I'm not the proest racer out there, but some of the maps seem ridiculous and felt like I had to have the concentration level if I was playing in bootcamp ;-;

Not sure what you were expecting when racing became official either but having simple p7 maps play rather than the new p17 category would sort of defeat the purpose of it being a separate minigame.
