On a British keyboard, typing an accented character such as "á" by pressing CTRL+ALT+A clears the entire post and puts that one character in its place.

This is awfully annoying when trying to type with accents.

Ah, I should probably say that this only happens when I type in the browser, it works fine in the standalone. Were you using the standalone there?

It's happened in all the browsers I've tested (the major ones, Chrome, IE10, IE9, Safari, Firefox, and Opera).

I tried it out and the same thing happened to me. I tried doing the alternative ALT GR + A but it didn't work. Oh, and I'm using Chrome.
