I don't feel as though this really belongs in Q&A, so I'm making a separate thread for it. Basically, I need some sort of advice as to how to do bootcamp maps, seeing as how most people here are veterans and don't even need to talk about it at all beyond making even HARDER maps. Running bootcamp maps through tribe house just makes me a shaman under regular map settings, and racing maps are either too easy or too hard (and variable) to really develop skills transferable to bootcamp. I've read a basic guide as to the METHODS used, but are there any other tips, maps, etc etc for a beginner? C: |

If there is a corner jump where you need to jump on the ice, try to keep walking to see if it is an auto cj, if not try and get your positioning properly :) |

There used to be a thread on old forums (not sure if it was created on this one) where people exported training maps for general skills (WJ, slanted WJ, WP, CJ, etc). If someone still has the map codes for those maps they might be useful for you. EDIT: I remember Blarghaag exported quite a few, you can check them on http://cheese.formice.com/maps/player/Blarghaag |

Well, if you know the methods, the best advice I can give you is to practice, practice, practice. The best way to practice bootcamp is to go to a room by yourself (i.e room bootcampblah) and see if the map is easy. If it is too hard for you, go to a similar room (i.e room bootcampblahh) and check there. If it is still too hard, go back to your first room. It will be a new map. Keep on checking like this until you find a suitable map to practice on. DISCLAIMER: you will not actually earn bootcamp by playing by yourself. And to make sure you know all the methods, go through this list, and see what you missed. Ask me if you want to know how to do it. WJ-Wall Jump TA-Turn Around CJ-Corner Jump LJ-Long Jump WP-Wall Push CP-Corner Push RCJ-Reverse Corner Jump Overhangs There are more, although they don't really have official names and don't have any concise description. Here is a list of the top easiest bootcamps: http://cheese.formice.com/minigames/bootcamp8?mostcompleted Hope this helped, and best wishes on your bootcamp career! EDIT: Harrytrotter reminded me that I had made practice maps for two skills: @4133240--TA @4133312--CJ To play them, set them as tribe house. These maps are not meant to be simply completed; the last obstacles are hard (especially the TA one--a wood cheese TA). They are for training. You can TA back and forth to practice succeeding every time. |

Spacewind a dit : Here is a rough sketch: ![]() I may be wrong on the white part because I never made it that far, but the point is that you need to approach the bottom left ice with speed. |

Im pretty sure you didn't even play through the map, because the tramp on the right have enough bounce to get to cheest, and the return road is also wrong... |

Zhichengzhan a dit : That is actually an sc. Also, I had written plainly on my post that I had not beat the level. Please read throughly before commenting. |

If you are trying to be cool and making excuse for your mistake, then please play this map over and over again.... this is longer than the NORMAL way and you are trying to say it's a sc |

Zhichengzhan a dit : I'm not trying to be cool; I was just informed that the way I described is the INTENDED way to solve it. And it is wrong for you to say it is the "normal" way. Normality is based on opinion. Even if 99% of the mice do it that way it does not necessarily make it "normal". And mind you, I was never trying to correct my mistake, because there was none to begin with. |

The thing that worked for me was to learn to play fast. I pretty much sucked at bootcamp until I started rushing them. You know, you don't learn anything without pushing yourself to the limits and playing fast is a more efficient way to train finger dexterity and muscle memory. And by fast I don't mean record-breaking fast, but just fast enough to make your playing feel fluid. When you get consistent at doing things with a decent speed, improving from there becomes way less cumbersome. Especially TAs become much easier once you get how to do them quickly. The trick to fast turn-arounds is to hit the TA as low as possible and immediately double-tap (let go of forward and quickly press it again) and then jump and turn. You can see it by watching any good bootcamper, instead of running towards a turn-around, one just kinda drops down from it and then hits forward and jump. Double-tapping is generally a very useful method as you can reset your run animation on 0 friction (air and ice) with it to get the faster ones (this can also be used as a substitute for wallpushing and longjumping), you can use it to slow down in the air when going too fast (like during cornerjumps or lava jumps), you can prevent jumplocks from happening by double-tapping before hitting a surface like a wall (very useful if you fail a wj and for overhangs) you can reset your running animation cycle to get a better timing for a good jump animation (this is probably too advanced to learn without insane amounts of practice), etc etc. All in all, controlling your momentum and animations via letting go of your keys mid-action is one of the most abuseable mechanics in the game and everyone who wants to be good at the game should learn to use it advantageously. When you get good at it, people will start reporting you for hacking. It really is that game-breaking. |

Woo, thanks for the great advice all. I'll be sure to save this thread for reference. |
