The original idea for this came when Impuredeath suggested to have minigames like FFA, which is insanely popular, to show up rarely in regular rotation.

This idea has several parts to it and things to note that would eventually completely replace the existing map rotation and perm categories.

• Perm types are no longer played in rotation, instead Modules that last 1 round each are.
• Instead of maps being categorised, they can be added to a list in an appropriate Module.
• Making use of Lua can open up new possiblities for map makers that were previously wanted but haven't been made available yet.
• Popular minigames with slight deviations in gameplay from original Transformice, such as FFA, could play occasionally in regular rooms.
• Randomness. Multi-spawns would be better or even possible to be even, maps where cheese/some grounds/etc. can be in different places (like the old map 99) can be done without exporting multiple maps.

Although of course, it doesn't even have to be split into multiple Modules, the XML could easily have custom tags in it that are read by the API. Minigames like Playground Topic-465641 make use of custom tags in the XML, while ones like Prop Hunt Topic-469395 read existing ones to make use of.

These could be left to be edited into the <P /> tag of the XML, not having any interface like joints/night mode/etc. have been done, or could have an interface in the Map Editor at some point. Some examples of useful tags are as follows.

• shamans="1" - Sets the number of shamans in the map. Will default to 1 if left blank.
• respawn="true" - Instantly respawns a player if they die, useful for maps that may be fun but otherwise can cause mass death.
• time="120" - Sets the time left on the map.
• intro="Text here" - This text will be displayed in the chat as the map is loaded, useful for giving special instructions on a specific map.
• skills="false" - Disables shaman skills.
• bg="id" - Gives a map a custom background. While people aren't allowed to use their own custom ones, a set of predefined ones to extend the default ones would be useful.
• fg="id" - Same as bg="", but this image is displayed in the foreground.
• snow="true" - Makes it snow for the duration of the map.

This could also have the bonus of being able to load in commonly used graphics, such as a hole and cheese, instead of having to use hundreds of joints to achieve the same effect.

I wouldn't instantly say that we have to remove all the original rotations, but add a new category for modules. Because if every category has to be done with modules then it would be rather inconvenient/time consuming to add/remove maps to these rotations. Unless that becomes very convenient ofcourse, then there is no issue.

But yes, some minigames in the rotation every now and then would be a great idea.

I say to replace regular rotation, at least the special properties, because there's been the longstanding issue of shamans messing up P6/P5 maps, some P0s being racing and needing no shamans, etc. Of course it would be an insanely big change, but it could be just as easy for the Map Crew to give these types of perms if there were commands for them, I don't see that being a terribly difficult thing to do.

You could also turn categories into modules.

For example, putting a map into P7 already means that some script runs that makes sure there's no shaman on the map. It would make sense to allow custom categories, fit to module games. It's the same idea but from a different perspective. It's not about replacing map rotation, but enhancing it.
