Try going to settings and click "Display messages of players from other communities" on.

Are you sure that the players are not ignored? Someone had a issue like that before where they ignored everyone in a room, and when they forgot they ignored them, then they complain that they cannot see the room's chat. Otherwise, Please read Irishcow's post above, I have said the same thing.

how you didnt see it concerns me alot
prettty sure the person wouldn't be ignorant and ignore everyone and fake that it/he/she couldn't see anyone's messages, besides it looks like the person is with friends(assuming since she/he is in a private room), so i doubt the person would've ignored everybody.
