NOTE: This is being edited as I go, so please inform me if I seem to be missing anything or you have any suggestions! Also, critique is accepted!

Hello everyone!
First of all, thanks for taking a peek at this thread. Basically this is where I’m going to be putting my new fanfiction, The Sovereign. This story is basically about a war that has plagued several tribes, and how one specific tribe, Sovereign, must rebuild itself to survive and protect their land. They do this by welcoming outsiders - an action that would have once been heavily frowned upon.
If you wish to know more, just check out the prologue. This story will also be welcoming YOUR characters into it, too! You just have to fill out a form. To learn more about this, check out the Character forms and information section.

Chapter 1 - Page 1, post 11

Prologue

War is nothing familiar to me. As a child I was raised alongside the strongest of my birth tribe’s Warrior Shaman, constantly learning and training so that I too may fight beside them. Normally a mouse such as myself, or rather any female mouse, would never be trained as a warrior, and much less a Warrior Shaman. Such training was granted only to those that proved to be the best warriors of their generation. But because of the war they made an exception. For many years they molded me into their image of a perfect warrior. Powerful, courageous, and willing to slaughter for the sake of her tribe.
Then the time for the Final Battle came upon us. It seemed all too quick, and none of the five tribes were truly ready. Every warrior, every Shaman, we were all out on the battlefield - even myself, a Shaman that would normally be too young to participate in such a dangerous battle. There were even young apprentices with barely any training participating in the fight. The battle lasted two whole days. There was no break in deaths, there was no such thing as rest. It wasn’t until two of the five tribes had been completely wiped out that the remaining tribes called cease fire.
With little more than ten percent of our tribes remaining, we all returned to our own lands, leaving the bloody battlefield behind us. We divided the two fallen tribe’s land between the three remaining. The war was over for now, but I knew it wasn’t the end. Greed would prove to be too much, and none of us were willing to give up the lands that we had grown up on. This was only a break to replenish our soldiers.
Desperation had taken ahold of us - of all of us. We had begun to take in Impures - mice that were not born within our tribe and possessed no ancestors related to our tribe’s. They were normally looked down upon, but now they outnumbered the Pure Bloods - though the Pures did not allow them to act superior. They were superior in training and skill, and were much more familiar with the land than the newcomers.
Even now some Pures may look down upon the Impures, though we are all aware of just how much we need them. Perhaps one day they will be fully accepted into our tribe, but for now they are unallowed to wear the mask of the Sovereign.
Training these Impures will be no easy task, but I am certain that they will one day grasp our techniques. They will see this tribe, this land, as their home, and they will wish to fight for it when war comes again.

Accepted Characters:

Casseous | Pure | 39 Years | Male | Sovereign | Spiritual Chief | Earth/Spiritual
Bio: Born during the beginning of the tribe’s first quarrels, Casseous was trained at an early age to become a Warrior. During this training he also learned to use the abilities of the Shaman in secret, though he was eventually discovered. However, instead of being scolded the Spiritual Chief at the time agreed to train him as a Shaman Warrior. He surpassed his peers quickly, and even took it upon himself to learn the art of healing and learning their spiritual abilities. The Spiritual Chief eventually took him in as his apprentice, admiring his wisdom and determination, and realizing that he had the gentle and caring personality that one must have. Once his mentor passed away he took his place.

Frost | Pure | 17 Years | Female | Sovereign | Shaman Warrior | Wind/Ice
Born to a well-respected Shaman Warrior that had died before her birth, and a kindhearted Healer, Frost was expected to follow in her mother’s footsteps. However, because of the tribe’s desperate need for Warriors, they trained her and several other young mice to fight at a young age. Because she showed great potential it was decided that she would train to become a Shaman Warrior. During this time her mother had grown ill and died, though by then she had begun to see her mentor as a fatherly figure. Though she was quite the trouble-maker, and because she had no true childhood she was rather immature. However, after the Final Battle she seemed to grow up. Now, along with being the courageous and daring figure she has to be, she is also much more kindhearted and considerate of other mice.

Valdus | Pure | 20 Years | Male | Sovereign | Shaman Warrior | Fire
Valdus had always been a favorite among the tribe. He held the strength and courage of a Valiant warrior, but also the wisdom and gentleness of a Sage. As a child they would often tease him, claiming that he was born into the wrong tribe, or his parents were from completely different tribes - though they all knew this wasn't true. His father was a well-respected Shaman Warrior within the tribe, while his mother was a gentle healer that seemed to be able to heal any wound, whether it be physical or emotional. Perhaps it is because of this that he is consider to be quite the gentleman. His gentle but possessive and protective nature makes him one of the more popular male mice, and his high status as a Shaman Warrior only adds to it. He has proven to take a liking to the young mix-blood apprentice known as Lance, and unlike the others he happily accepts him into the tribe.

Azai | Impure | 14 Years | Female | Sovereign | Warrior Apprentice
As a young kid, Azai ran away from her home to live somewhere else, where she could learn to fight. Family was never important to her, because her own parents rarely saw her before she discovered the Sorvereign tribe and escaped there. Azai is quiet and observant of things around her, but she tends to act on impulse no matter what others try to tell her.

Tribe Descriptions

Tribes

Tribe of the Sovereign
Living to the north of the other tribes, the Sovereign’s territory experiences harsher winters but vibrant summers. Food is plentiful in their territory during the summer, with several rivers running through the territory and providing excellent farm land. However, during the winter is proves to be harsher and colder in this territory than any other, and it isn’t uncommon for a few deaths during such times.
The Sovereign are known for their preference of negotiating things through talk rather than action, though they certainly aren’t unwilling to fight with their powerful warriors if need be. The tribe members tend to be a close-knit family, though because of the Impure’s and Pure’s relationship it now seems to be three separate family rather than one.
Warriors and Shaman of this tribe are identified by their feathered mask. The mask itself are similar in appearance no matter the position, with a hook beak and decorations that vary depending on the mouse, and various colors to suit its owner. The headdress is used to distinguish shamans and regular warriors, something that none of the other tribes do.

Tribe of the Valiant
The Valiant are known to be a courageous and determined group, though they are at times reckless. They are very proud and believe their strength is more powerful than the other tribes - though this is understandable, as their warriors truly are trained well. However, this is also their weakness, for they may often times become reckless and too cocky for their own good. Competitive even amongst each other, they’re teamwork isn’t exactly the best, and they seem to work best individually. Rarely do they prefer to talk things out, and will usually act before thinking.
The Valiant are distinguished by their feline-shaped mask, topped with dangerously sharp, curved horns. A mouse’s rank is often distinguished by the length of these horns.

Tribe of the Sage
Towards the south-east of the Sovereign, and known to be the oldest of the remaining tribes, the Sage don’t rely on brawn but rather tactic and numbers. They are among the most peaceful of the three tribes, and have tried countless times to prevent the war - though upon their failure they were forced to fight in order to defend their land. Because they were once allies with the Sovereign they seem to be more tolerant of their neighbors, though their intense dislike for the Valiant is very obvious.
One can recognize a Sage warrior by their carefully crafted mask made from the toughest stone in the area. They are shaped into that of a dragon’s head, and are normally decorated with a flawless gemstone, which may vary in color.

Character Form Information

IMPORTANT NOTE: I will edit your bio as I see fit. It will probably only be altered a little to fit the average bio length, but if you have an issue with this please don't post a character.

You may fill out a character form in order to have your character(s) put into the story. However, your characters might not be accepted right away! Please be patient, I will try to use every character! Keep in mind that Sovereign is the main tribe in the story, so you won’t see very much of the other two tribes unless they’re fighting. You are free to make as many characters as you wish.

Your character would be more along the lines of Impure blood, since Pures are born within the tribe and have two tribe-born parents.
Also, Healers are only trained in using spiritual magic.
If you want to change your form a bit than it would be fine. ^^;

Looks good Susan!
I'll be able to finish the first chapter once I get a few more characters in. If I don't get any soon I'll just go ahead and make some of my own. I've been rather busy with school lately, so I haven't quite had the chance to write too much yet.
Also working on a title cover for the story. =]

Preferably yes. But if you'd rather write a detailed explanation of your character's physical apearance that would be fine too.

A bit rushed, but it's meant to be a bit more of an introduction. Anyways, here's the first chapter:

Chapter 1

The air was crisp and chilly, though the bright spectacle of colors that bloomed from the forest’s canopy seemed to warm the atmosphere simply by sight. When a breeze came along the embers of the trees would drift away, falling to the ground only after the wind ceased. It seemed as though the trees completely contradicted the nipping cold brought by the wind. It wouldn’t be long before that changed, however. The flaming trees would eventually burn out, leaving nothing but bare branches that would eventually be covered in a blanket of white.

It seemed as though everything was peaceful among the mountains and forests that were contained within Sovereign’s territory. Within my territory. If one hadn’t ever been there to witness it, it would have been impossible to tell that these same plains had been drenched with blood not too long ago.

The war had been devastating, killing my friends and family and nearly destroying everything I had known. Once upon a time the North Cliff hadn’t been populated by graves and memorials of the fallen. There was once a time when the Sovereign’s village had been populated by hundreds of mice, living happily with their families. When there were no Impures to be found within the territory’s boundaries.

But those times are long gone.

Now the North Cliff that overlooks the territory is the home of hundreds of fallen, their mask settled atop bows and swords and staffs. The village is seemingly empty, so many empty homes like shells abandoned by their occupant. Impures have become an everyday sight, though many have become members of the tribe. Whether I can consider them family or not, I can’t quite say yet. Perhaps they one day will be, but for now they are acquaintances training to prove themselves.

“Hey Frosty,” A masculine voice seemed to purr. I didn’t even have to turn to know who it was. The tribe’s own personal flirt, the mouse that every girl manages to fall for. Even I would be lying if I claimed to have never liked him. But the days of crushes are over now - it would simply be another bit of stress set upon my shoulders, something I would rather go without.

“Good evening Valdus,” I greeted as I turned to face him. His mask seemed to contrast with his fur. It almost gave the appearance of a setting sun as the day turned to night. But I would have to admit that the golden colors complimented his fur quite well.

“Did they stick you all the way out here for patrol?”

I shook my head, “No, I figured it would be a nice time to take a walk. The snow comes so fast and so suddenly, you never know when you’re last chance to see this sight is going to be.”

A chuckle escaped Vale’s throat and I threw a glare at him. “You act like such a toughy sometimes, and you hang out with the guys, but deep down you’re still a complete girl.”

“Oh, hush! These days you can’t take everything for granted.”

Vale’s face grew slightly more serious as he averted his gaze away from mine, instead glancing at the field of trees down the mountain. For several moments there was a silence between us, and I started to wonder where his thoughts had drifted off to. Perhaps the war, perhaps his fallen family, perhaps his future. Whatever it was I didn’t expect him to tell me.

“Did you hear? They’re allowing the Impures to start training as Shaman apprentices - not just warriors. We might become mentors soon,” He finally spoke up.

I grunted at his words. I had been well aware of the news, though I wasn’t entirely sure how I felt about it. Training an Impure just seemed odd, unnatural. Not only that, but we normally weren’t assigned an apprentice until we had 10 years as a full-fledged Shaman Warrior. But I guess circumstances change when more than half of your tribe is killed off.

“Not very fond of the idea?”

“It’s not that,” I answered, “It just doesn’t seem right. Training Impures, I mean. Those with Pure blood, you know that they’re loyal because this is their birth tribe. But Impures, they could be spies from Valiant or Sage. They could destroy our tribe from the inside out.”

“That’s always going to be a possibility, but if we don’t put our trust in them and train them, how will we keep our territory? Our warriors are strong, but numbers are an important factor when it comes to war.”

That was true. And I had thought about that, but it still didn’t seem right.

“Maybe you’ll get a Pure-blood apprentice. The apprenticeship ceremony is tomorrow, so I guess we’ll find out then,” Valdus said.

“That’s another thing I don’t like. Giving apprenticeships but not their mask. It’s tradition to get your mask once you gain a position within the tribe.”

“Well the Chief wanted it that way, so we can’t change that,” He replied, then turned towards the village, “Anyways, I have patrol in an hour. You should come with - then your next patrol I’ll tag along. Agreed?”

A small smile slipped on my lips as I began to follow. “Sure, why not."

Looks good King, although what picture are you talking about?
Also, I finished another reference sheet for another character, Valdus.
Find it here.
Also, I need more characters for the next chapter, otherwise I'll have to make more characters myself! ^^;
