When me and my friend were both sham on one map she had her hard mode on and i didnt have hard mode yet but it showed my feather as a hardmode shaman feather i never really thought about getting a screenshot :/

Co-op maps tend to make you think that you have hard mode , but actually ,when either of you both gets the saves , it doesn't go to the hard mode saves , it goes to the easy mode saves. From what i've experienced
