There are very many Transformice players, aren't there? Many players will make multiple accounts, and abandon them, make their username unavailable.
It took me a while to find the username 'Paintdrop' and I at first wanted just 'Paint', but that was taken.
What about all the players who haven't been on in forever? I think that after a long time, unused accounts should reset, and old usernames will become re-available.
If this happens, mouse names should also be able to be changed, and an alert should be sent to their tribe/friends "Paintdrop has changed their username to 'Paint'."
It would make it much simpler to find a username, and get rid of old, forgotten accounts.
Please leave your opinions on this.

We will be able to change our usernames in the future using (a large payment of*) fraises. However, I'm not sure if we'll be able to take a username already in use.

I also don't think it would be fair to take someone's username who was once an avid player. There should be a limit. Say, 10,000 cheese. Anyone below 10,000 cheese and has not logged in for a set period of time (years) may have their username taken and their account floating somewhere. If they come back they are notified that their username has been taken as a result of their inactivity and they now have a modified username. For example Apple's username gets taken so their new username is =Apple.

Edit: Did not think about how exactly they would come back. Maybe if they enter their old username and password to log in it would trigger it. I doubt they would even remember their password, though.

Perhaps someone over 10,000 cheese could be notified via email (If they set one) to remind them of their inactivity and if they would either like to put their username back on the market or be selfish and keep their username. :P Failure to do any of the above would allow people to take the username.

Bit carried away here because I really want to change my username to something that was taken in 2010 by someone who didn't even collect one piece of cheese!

_
*Not sure how large. I read 1,000 fraises somewhere and 10,000 somewhere else. Could be neither.

What if they had a massive computer virus or something (yes, there ARE viruses that can infect a system for years, one is called z0mbie or zombie)

And they couldnt use the computer.
It wouldnt be fair if they got thier account deleted, especially if they purchased fraises.

And its also really easy to get bored of tfm, truthfully. Just a phase, but it can ALSO take years to come back.
It wouldn't be fair to have your account deleted.

Also, one last thing. What if you had a friend and you left tfm and he thought it was you? Its just really unnessacary. Seriously, stop being so picky and just stick with your name, or be more creative.

I actually like the system we already have. It forces people to not spam numbers like "Paint125976" and forces them to be more creative in their names. The transformice world would be bland if everyone had boring names like "Apple" or "Paint" or "Tree" or "Cheese" etc.

Besides, Paintdrop is a really nice name! Much better then Paint. ^_^

So, I believe we shouldn't change our current system. Sorry!

I guess this can only be considered once account security has been improved. Right now, without an email address attached, accounts are very vulnerable, especially to phishing attempts. Without the ability to change email addresses, phishers can permanently take ownership of these accounts by linking an email address of their own.

More on topic, I do believe it was once the plan to purge unused accounts. The community platform already makes it easier to see when an account was last used in game, so this may be a viable option in the future. Along with this I would suggest the ability to protect your username from automatic purging by buying fraises, but I guess that's fairly obvious.

This is true, I got a virus that didn't get fixed until after about four months. /no support. Plus what if it personally took you forever to get that username and you suddenly log into, "This account as been deleted" or whatever, I don't think this idea should go ahead.

/no support I think it's a bad idea, what if your computer got broken like mine did or you went on vacation or something, and then you came back and wanted to log on and then you couldn't? Imagine losing all the progress just because you didn't log on. And what about your friends? They would think it is you but the person who took the name is completely different and maybe even mean.
