What exactly are Cactus Blocks?

Cactus blocks are a new type of ground to be added to the game. Its properties are similar to that of normal wood, except that it kills mice and pops balloons or bubbles on contact.

With the addition of cactus blocks in the game, all sorts of maps will benefit. Bootcamp and shaman maps however will benefit most.

http://i1194.photobucket.com/albums/aa364/Kamikaze-Legend/Bootcamp.png
Bootcamp maps will use cactus as another way to kill mice, allowing the ability to kill mice without forcing them to fall. Cactus blocks, unlike lava, have a 0% survivability chance on contact. They would make great obstacles for mice to avoid.

http://i1194.photobucket.com/albums/aa364/Kamikaze-Legend/shaman.png
Shaman maps would also greatly benefit from cactus blocks. Cactus can pop balloons that come in contact with it, making airships or balloon supports a bad idea. They can force the shaman into using different methods to solve maps, and can be especially deadly.

How can we get these in the game?

Cactus blocks won't make it into the game unless we make an effort to put them there! The easiest way to get them added is to speak your mind and support them in this thread. To speed up that process, tell your friends about them! You can link them to this topic using this:

Here's a race map, which is only 100% functional in single player.

@6200976

And here's a bunch of old stuff, which doesn't really matter anymore:

a dit :
And here's a map with an actual working cactus block! (Well actually, they don't work anymore because TFM is buggy. Oh well.)

@4219006

And here's the XML for it!

Really nice idea and I love the artwork, but wouldn't this ground be the same as a gap in map? (aside from the balloon popping) I still love the idea, I support.

Pwee is right. I like the idea and the grounds appearance, but it would be the same as just not having it at all.
Also, how did you get images of the old ice grounds?

Who would have such ANCIENT screenshots though?! D:
This screenshot he posted is worth money! :P

After looking at this suggestion, I realized this can already be replicated and here is how: <C><P /><Z><S><S X="400" H="280" Y="290" T="12" o="324650" P="0,0,0.3,0.2,0,0,0,0" c="2" L="40" /><S X="400" H="250" Y="275" T="3" P="0,0,0,20,0,0,0,0" c="3" L="40" /><S X="200" H="53" Y="409" T="6" P="0,0,0.3,0.2,0,0,0,0" L="400" /><S X="600" H="53" Y="409" T="6" P="0,0,0.3,0.2,0,0,0,0" L="400" /></S><D /><O /></Z></C>

you'd still be able to build on top of it. plus, something like this would be extremely useful on bootcamp maps. lava sends you flying everywhere and as such isn't always appropriate as an insta-kill block.

for example, on a map like this, you could replace the lava with cactii: http://cheese.formice.com/maps/@224108

Support, this not only would help to make better bootcamp maps but better maps in general, like racing, shaman, ect.

Ive got to say that by using the cactus idea rather than using lava in a map it would reduce crash maps ;) as most of the time crash maps are usually with lava grounds.

Not really, any ground with high restitution doesn't auto-kill which leads to stupids luck based bugs; you can actually survive to a 9999 restitution ground.

How could it be luck based with 9999 restitution?

For all wondering, the screenshot was from before there was an official Transformice forum, this is a really old idea. :P

Also, for everyone posting how to make "cactus" in map editor now, why don't the bloons pop? Can't do that now, can you? There's no way to replicate BOTH effects of Cactus Blocks.

Any 9999 restitution ground in theory it's a placeholder for auto-kill, though what it actually does is make you go outside enough of the map and therefore dying. However, as a result of high restitution, the Box2D physics could ''broke'' and you will not die, this, as I said before, it's all about luck.

Actually, I could. But it wouldn't make them pop, it would send them staight to 0, 0 on the coordinate grid, and anything else that touches the ground would be sent there. >,>
As would mice that are connected to the balloons.
