In some forums you have the option to 'thank' a post. For example if you liked what I'm writing here you could 'thank' me. It's a bit like 'likes' on Facebook. A sign of support.

You don't really gain anything but it just seems more social some how. I always want to thank people for their posts on here but I cant! It's just like quoting somebody saying 'i feel you', 'great idea' and 'thanks for the info' sort of thing.

The forum I'm admin on has it and its a really big success for us, we use vBulltin though.

Here's an example, at the bottom of the post you can see 6 people 'thanked' the user for letting the rest of the forum know about a competition.

If you thank somebody, you don't need to post and say then that you thanked him :P
