Context: Lately there has been an increase of spam from people creating a large amount of accounts to avoid reporting and such. This sort of spam often contains links to phishing sites or pirated servers and can completely take over public chat.

Much like we're able to ignore all messages from user names, it would be nice to be able to ignore all messages containing a certain word/phrase/website. This would save people like me a lot of frustration when being confronted with phishing links and such. Obviously you could also use it as a more agressive, personalized filter system.

My idea is that you should be able to select a part of the chat, right click and choose ignore. Next time a message comes in that contains that piece of text, it will not be displayed. These rules then be removed again using the already existing Ignore List.

So just apply a minimum amount of characters. Problem solved.

Actually, ignoring 'a' would completely not show any message with 'a' in it, not just filtering out all a's. Like Haru says a minimum character amount would solve your problem, although it's common sense not to ignore just one character.

But you could ignore some words like Join, Bootcamp, /room ect. come join /room bootcamp1 could turn out to be come.

No it wouldn't. Example:

Message: Come join /room bootcamp1

Ignored words: "random", "swear word", "join /room"

Result: Message contains "join /room", so the message is not displayed whatsoever. You don't see the message.

I don't think I can explain it more clearly..
