It's a problem with a physics engine (assuming the grounds were close enough with no gap) but it's unlikely to be fixed since it's not an issue.
Some maps purposely(cant spell) put small gaps between grounds to help hard mode shams without totems build.

Probably that you spawned inside the ground to force it inside, OR the map's coding is just like that for you to build. If you could, give me the map code and I'll test it out.

Some people actually take advantage of that glitch in hard mode, not really that weird but it's still a bug nonetheless

this bug ususally happens most of the time. there might be a really small gap in the grass bit that you cant see. but it does make a pretty stable building platform sometimes :D
