Chapter One


Spade watched the birds go by outside of his tribe house. Everyone in his tribe was offline at the moment. An orange line of text suddenly caught his eye.

"Spade, invite me to your tribe. Now. From, Scarlette."

Spade shrugged and sent an invite to one of his best friends. The rosy-haired mouse arrived instantly at the door. Frantic pressing of the doorbell soon followed and without waiting for a response, Scarlette burst into the house carrying a stack of newspapers. Spade looked at her with question.

"Spade, you know how that mouse has been trying to get Nick for a few years?" Scarlette's face was pale.

Spade laughed. "Oh come on, Nick's strong! He wouldn't need our help. He's that kind of mouse. He doesn't like to look weak." Scarlette frowned and tossed the newspaper at Spade's face. Spluttering, he picked the paper off himself.

"Nick... is going to be executed?"

Scarlette nodded solemly. "There's nothing we can do about it. They've put him in Chaffore for something I know he wouldn't have done. Nobody has ever escaped, and those who got out of their cells were all recaptured or killed. Let's go to say our goodbyes."

"I don't believe it."

"Spade, it's the truth. All of transformice knows."

"No. Nick wouldn't get himself caught. He's too strong!" Spade shouted. "When we were kids, I could never beat him in a fight!"

"Calm down. Yelling isn't going to change anything," Scarlette said, eyes wide with worry.

"I'm going to go save him." Spade ran to the kitchen and picked up his knife. "I won't let Nick die. Never."

"No!" Scarlette shouted. "You can't! You'll be killed! You won't even be able to get in there without being killed! Besides, it's many, many rooms away and nobody's ever escaped! You'll die the moment you set foot in there!" She stared him directly in the eye. "And if you don't come back, who's going to help me steal from unsuspecting passerby?"

"I won't die," Spade mumbled with the knife between his mouth. "Wait for me." Scarlette sighed.

"There's no stopping you. But promise me you won't cause any trouble. Just sneak in there silently and get Nick out."

Spade packed two full bags of cheese and put them on his back. He zoomed out the tribe house immediately. Scarlette perked up. "Wait! Spade!" He stopped. "Chaffore is a nullification zone!"

"Oh. I know what you mean," Spade called back. "It's a nullimafation zone! Okay!"

"No, you don't!" Scarlette screeched, annoyed at how blunt her friend was. "You idiot! It means you can't log out!" Spade was already gone. Scarlette sighed and facepalmed.

"Damn it, Monet! You'll regret this!" The horde of angry prisoners called from every which cell. "You'll be captured in no time! If only you'd listen and wait out your sentence!"

The orange haired mouse stuck her tongue out at them. "Bleeeh. It's your fault that you're weak. This is only level one! I'm not nice enough to take very single criminal out with me. See you!"

When she was 15 she got in a political web, her parents had debts pay.It was well common Luna was smart and sneaky. And good looking, even thought she never used it and rather hide it. They offerd their parents a deal: you will be free from all yours debts, but in trade their daugher Luna had to marry the mysterious 'old enemy' and work on their side. She would do everything ift heres a chanceto change, she despises her fiancee, (she hadent said yes offcialy) and espiaclly the fraud he does. Maybe she is secretly a protagonist?

Cream doesn't have a criminal record, but she has had a few scrapes with the law. She has managed to land herself in jail because she had been caught shop-lifting. She doesn't really like the police and will always try to get herself out of being caught, whatever it takes.

Monet had run into a dead end. Well, not really, but there were rows of security cameras lined across the wall. If she took even one step further she would be seen. Chaffore staff didn't even know that she had escaped. She sighed.

'Maybe I shouldn't have broken into the Atlier 801 staff room and tried to make off with their money... Nah, no regrets!' She thought, and grinned. 'One, two, three... GO!' She sprinted across the corridor as fast as her paws would carry her. 'I've got to get back to the outside world, it's so boring here!'

An alarm immediately went off. 'Dang. At least I tried.' She took off immediately but jumped at the sound of a gunshot behind her.

"Prisoner 1337 has escaped from the cell! I repeat, prisoner 1337 has escaped from the cell!" The announcement was made to all the guards stationed on level one. "Capture her immediately! Be prepared to use force!" Monet squealed and ran frantically.

"This SUCKS!" she shouted, not caring who heard her, not that it really mattered since everyone knew she was loose. 'If only Luna or Foxie J were here... They're so sneaky, they'd probably have broken out ages ago! I've wasted a week of my life here already! Come on!' She thought. Her life flashed before her eyes as knives and nets flew at her from behind.

She looked behind her for an instant and the only thing she could see for miles was a sea of dark blue hats and red fur. 'Run, run, run!'

In front of her there was a staircase. "Finally! I'm free!" She cheered. Then realization hit her.

"This staircase is going DOWN! They're forcing me down to level two!" Each level was immensely worse than the other in terms of living conditions and torture. "No way!"

Spade was lost. Hopelessly lost. Being an idiot, it only made sense that he would have gotten lost in the first two rooms that he went into.

"NICK! WHERE ARE YOU?!" He shouted into the air. Several mice stopped collecting cheese and stared at him weirdly. He could imagine Scarlette punching him in the face for embarrassing them in public, and Nick's rare laughter.

"Okay! Next room!" He trotted into the room. "This looks pretty familiar..."

Several rooms later and extremely tired out, Spade caught a view of an eerily gloomy sign. "Cha... ffore. Chaffore! Niiiiiiiiick!" He raced in that direction and tripped on his tail twelve times. (Purely luck that he actually managed to find the building...)

Now he faced a bigger problem. "How do I get in?" The gates were tightly closed and bigger than sixty mice combined.

"Enter password." A monotone voice spoke to him. Spade blinked.

"Who are you? Why are you talking to me?" He shouted at the screen on the door. He blinked. "Oh. Guess and check. Fun."

"Password correct. Please stand by." Spade gaped in shock.

"Really?!"

Spade was just about to crash into the prison when someone approached him. "Wait!"

"What?" He said crossly, brimming with impatience.

"Don't just burst in." A brown female mouse wearing a mask with a moon hanging off her tail trotted up to him. "You'll be caught right away."

"So?"

'Wow, this guy is an idiot,' Luna mused, shaking her head. "So, you'll be caught, and you won't be able to do anything about it."

"Oh! I see! Then I can't save Nick!" 'It took him that long?!' Spade then proceeded to trip over his own tail. 'What a clumsy mouse. How has he survived this long?'

"My name is Luna. I have ties to the government but I absolutely despise the system. If I help you to get in, promise me a favor."

"Sure. What?"

"Kill my fiance." Spade stopped with a serious look.

"You can just decline his soulmate requests. And ignore him."

Luna shook her head. "No. I've already tried, there was a deal made long ago that we had to be engaged. I was almost kicked from the server when I put him on ignore. That's how much power he has, he's one of four officials in the server."

Spade nodded. "I see. I'll help you after I save Nick." Luna put on a furry, large cloak.

"Conceal yourself under this. I can go in and out of Chaffore without fear of injury. As the fiance of an important mouse, I can do what I please, but hopefully it won't last for long. Don't take the elevator, they'll find you. And avoid the things that look like cookies on the wall, they're monitoring devices." Spade quickly climbed onto Luna's back and hid himself under the cloak.

"Why are you helping me?" Spade whispered. "We've only just met."

"I want him dead," was her only reply. She walked into the prison. "And also I forgot, you have great luck, figuring out the password on the first try. Put that luck to use later. My friend Monet may be able to assist you."

Spade clambered out of the cloak and picked up a level one guard hat lying on the floor for whatever reason, maybe it would be useful to him later on. He shrugged and stuffed it into his bag filled with cheese, along with his knife.
'Thank you!' He mouthed to Luna. She nodded and left.

Then he proceeded to find a way to descend the steps to level seven, where Nick was being kept.
He whistled. This prison wasn’t so bad.

“Hey!” Spade whipped around. An orange-furred mouse poked his nose through the cage. “Who are you? How did you get out?”

“Me? I came from the outside!” He said, scratching his head. “See you!”

“Wait!” Another inmate called from the cage. “Don’t screw with me, nobody wants to come in here.”

“What is it?”

“Take me with you!” Spade shook his head.

“No! I have to save Nick!”

“Listen kid, in this world you don’t worry about saving somebody else. When a cat comes you push the other guy into its mouth. On collision maps you push the other guy off the cliff. There’s no time to worry about someone else! You make me sick.” The orange-furred mouse spat. “You’ll be caught in no time.”

Spade scoffed. "I'll save him, definitely!" He ran to where he thought (keyword: thought) the nearest staircase was. After several minutes of frantic searching, he found one. "So I just go down this?" He muttered to himself. A distant scream was heard in the background. He perked his ears.

"Heeeeeelp meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!" The scream came again, louder this time, and Spade looked up just in time to see an orange-haired grayish mouse sprinting towards the stairs. The mouse was wearing a band that was titled "1337" and was obviously a prisoner.

"Don't interfere!" Spade yelled back. The mouse raised an eyebrow and glared while running.

"No, YOU don't interfere! I'm trying to get out! I'm sure you are too!" She shouted back. Only now did Spade notice the swarm of guards behind her. He gulped and whipped out the hat he had picked up and put it on his head.

"Halt!" He boomed in a deep voice, praying hard that it would work. Every guard stopped, to his amazement."

"C-chief Tilestone!" They went into an orderly line and saluted with their left paws. "Why are you here?"

'Ah, I forgot.' Spade shuffled his feet. 'Scarlette mentioned to me about one of her exes. Tilestone wasn't it? She said he looked just like me, and that he was a big jerk.'

"Um, ah, yeah. It's me. Ta-da!" He announced. "I mean, I will take this prisoner into custody. She is extremely dangerous and none of you should go near her. Bye." The guards talked among themselves a little suspiciously and left. Spade wiped some sweat off his fur. "Phew."

They went to a non-security camera zone, one of the few in the prison. He was calm just enough to dodge a claw at his face. "Don't interfere with my plans! You're making me look weak!" Monet snarled. "I ought to kill you right now!"

"But I just saved your life!"

"I don't care! They were leading me to level two and I could have escaped there anyway!" She hissed, obviously unpleased.

"Can you help me get to level seven?" Spade asked. Monet's eyes bulged.

"Why do you want to go there? This is a high-security prison, for heavens' sake! Nobody wants to die that badly!"

"I'll give you half of my cheese."

"Deal. Now, you just go down that stairway, and voila, level two. Then on level three you risk being caught in the elvator or jump down a hole, you'll probably die if you do either. Hand over the cheese now." Her paw extended.

"I said level seven!"

"No way! I've only been down to three anyway when they were banding me with this stupid thing!" She tugged at her arm and the band with number 1337 on it. "Why do you wanna go down there anyway, idiot?"

"To save Nick!"

Monet gave Spade a long, hard look. "The world doesn't work like that."

"It doesn't matter. Nick is my best friend. I can't let him die for something he hasn't done."

"Oh, he's on death row? Good luck with that. Nobody has ever come back alive from level five and below." She snatched his bag of cheese. Spade snatched it back.

Suddenly the alarm went off again. "There's an intruder with prisoner number 1337! I repeat, there is an intruder!"
