I couldn't hear no one talk in the chat. I could hear the tribe chat, and whispers but not the main chat.

it's fixed now though, but this was really strange.

That's still a vanilla map, you just had minimalist mode on.
Also, ensure that you have "chat from other communities on."

Check your settings. Do you have minimalist mode on?
