There are many tribes, most tribes that arn't alive anymore, no members coming on, or some not even having any members.

Tribes that die, I would say should be deleted or at least be given a delete button.

Ideas
I have a couple ideas to this thread, I know there will be people then tend to not agree to one idea so I decided to try and come up with at least more then one.

One idea starts like this, There are tribes that have either no members or are dead with the fact that they have members but never come on. Those types of tribes should be auto deleted. The main idea of this is that it also free tribe names and also it would lower the amount of tribes.

If a tribe that has members, but not one is on with in maby 1 month(Or maby longer) Then the tribe should be deleted. Another idea that supports this one is it could also be that, if the Chief is in the tribe, then the tribe can not be deleted unless the Chief had not been on for a year.

If a tribe has no members in it, it should be automatically deleted for the fact that well, there is no way that that tribe can be in alive or become alive, better yet get members.

Those who do not like the idea of the auto delete there is also the idea that there could be a tribe deletion button. Only the Chief can delete a tribe, but with that idea, there is the idea with the chief can pick ranks that have the ability to do that.

Any other ideas please post and I will post here, giving you credit. v

You seem to be bent on wanting things people have spent a lot of time working on to be deleted. I said something similar to this on the account deletion thread, and I'll say it again. If the tribe is completely empty, I feel like this would be justified, but I don't think it would be fair to delete something someone spent a lot of time making.

That is why there is different ways of doing something, think of it like this, is the maker of a tribe leaves, and no one is ever on, all the members are unranked or have low ranks, then what is the point of it still being around?

Okay, in this specific situation, I see where you're coming from. But what if the tribe is small and none of the members can play at all during the school year or something like that?

Agin, this is just a idea, it does not have to be the exact way I specify it. So if you dont like that idea, then maby change it up.

I half support because I have made tribes before that I know others want to have now. I have no accounts in there so I can't just give it to them. (You know like LostClan) Not auto delete though.

Edit: Well it was only LostClan. I haven't made a lot of tribes.

My thoughts towards this idea are similar to your username pruning suggestion. I think it could work, but not in the way you currently worded it. Mostly I'm against deleting tribes that still have people in it, even if they're inactive.

My main problem with reclaiming tribe names is that tribes have always cost someone 500 cheese. Unless a player's completely addicted, that can easily take you a week to get. I'm not sure if TFM databases keeps track of who pays for creating a tribe, but if this is logged somewhere, I'd like to see some sort of "money back" system in case a previously used name is taken over.

Also, since some tribe names have been very popular in the past (but abandoned since), it might be a good idea to raise prices on second hand tribes. This could work as an incentive to make sure the tribe doesn't die again. If a tribe keeps dying and consequently being reclaimed people would only get confused. Incrementing the price for specific names every time it's being reclaimed could slow or even stop this from happening.

Just like with your username pruning idea, reclaiming a tribe name should reset every bit of data about the old users of the name; greeting messages, custom ranks, private tribe threads should all be cleared before new use. This might not be so easy to do automatically, but I do think it's a requirement for this idea to work properly.

In conclusion, I think this is more complicated than pruning usernames..still, eventually it will be needed.

I have to say, you are the best at looking through threads. ^
