Hello, you may remember that old Crumbling Ruins story... man it sucked. Click the spoilers! Story: The Crumbling Ruins By Sadlelight I stop. Sweat drips from my cinnamon colored hair strands. My heart pounds repeatedly, loudly in my ears. Warm, salty water forms at my dark green optics. I look down, closing them. My eyelids flicker back open, to the horrific scene in front of me. Sherlie, my mother, was sprawled on the crooked, rough stone. Blood welled up from a gash in her stomach. My father was laying next to Sherlie- I realize with a shock that half his body was missing. Bile threatened to rise and I looked away. I was just coming back home from my work as a mailman to have dinner with my parents. I wanted to talk to them about everything… I haven’t seen them in a while. I sit down on a ragged piece of yellow brick. Smoke filled the air and a cough emerged from my lips. Shadows from crumbling, cut and fallen skyscrapers loomed over me. I looked up in to the sky, stars peeking out of the blue, vast ocean of clouds. I realize I was crying. Help/Suggestions I use the word 'I' too much... any other words I could use? Wanna be in the story? Sawdust and dirt immediately crowd on to the moist sclera. I blink my now dry optics, and sneeze in disgust. My hair dangles in front of my face as I sneeze. Grunting, I shove it off and crawl to my brother. I poke him in the stomach. “What the…” He murmurs, still half asleep. I shove him. “Okay woman, I’ll get up! Sheesh.” He growls and forces himself to his paws. “Let’s get goin’. I heard there was more mice out there, somewhere. We need to gang up and find the shaman.” I declare. My brother, Pecan, makes a growling sound. At first I think it’s from his throat, then I realize it’s from his stomach. “Or… we can eat first.” I say and he dramatically groans, that kind of sounds like a celebration. My paws skitter across the hard tile floor, until I find a dropped carrot on the ground. I pick it up and take it to my striped brother. “About time…” he mutters. Anger stabs me and i throw the carrot at him. He backs away. “I was just teasing, God, you have temper issues.” My eyes narrow. I claw him across the face. Hissing, He shoves the carrot in to my stomach. I stumble back, and eventually fall on to the ground. I put my hand to my head and the warm trickle of blood lands on it. “You… you hurt me! You monster!” I snarl, getting back up. “Serves you right, you hit me with it first.” Pecan snorts and turns around, looking out the filthy window. I pick up the carrot and stab him in the back with it. It wasn’t sharp enough to break skin, but it had to hurt. Pecan looks back. “I… I hate you…” He mutters, and clutches his back. Fear, sadness, and anxiety hits me. How could I be so stupid, chasing away my brother? Chapter 2 Black fur muffles my yawn as I stretch and wake up. “Pumpkin, get off me, would ya?” I grumble and shove my friend aside. “Cashew… Come on, five more minutes, please?” the older mouse mutters. I sigh and pick myself up, scrambling over the debris to do so. My heart skips a beat as I look up. A gray tabby cat stares at me, her amber eyes cold. A ginger and white tom pads up next to her. I slowly take a sharp rock and throw it at them, then dart to my best friend. “Wake up, Pumpkin- wake up!” I yowl. “I told you, fi-” A loud screech comes from the cats and I turn my head around. Pumpkin’s red optics are filled with horror as he joins me at the scene. I realize my mouth is gaped open. The cats were laying on the ground, dead. I see just in time a shadow of a mouse running through the slabs of concrete and stone. I look at the dead bodies of the cat. Pumpkin walks up to the male and pokes it. The cat writhers and Pumpkin jumps away. “Maybe there not dead,” I say as Pumpkin pads back to me. “Let’s not take any chances,” Pumpkin mutters. “No duh Sherlock, they’re cats. Cats eat mice. Got that in that thick skull of yours?” I snarl, rounding on Pumpkin. His amber eyes widen. “Dude, what the heck? Lighen up. Why’re you so… I don’t know, snappy?” He remarks. “You don’t get it.” I mutter, my eyes flicking away. “Cashew, what don’t I get?” Pumpkin questions. “What killed these cats?” Chapter 3 “Icky nicky mud!” I growl, fluffing my pelt up and giving a good shake. “Pleh!” My friends, beside me, cough in unison. "I use the word 'I' too much... any other words I could use?" I don't think there is any alternatives because you're using first-person. Good luck with repetitive words. |
