The placement of things are drawn off, so it's probably copied not traced.

I think copying is fine as long as you learn from it.
I mean, most of us probably started doing fanart when drawing and we could use someone else's art style to eventually lead to our own.
Provided you learn the basic fundamentals of art too though. :3

And as long as you don't take all the credit. Like saying that the style is yours. It's just probably best if they start trying out their own styles rather than someone else's. Or at least try out new things. Good luck for future drawings.

Hi everyone. There are a couple reasons I was using melis drawings as references

1. I already know how to draw. I don't need to work my originality, I need to learn how to make decent line art and I need to work on my shading
2. I am still working on learning the anatomy of the transformice mouse and using references helps me.

You misunderstood me. Im trying to say that it takes a long time to draw original drawings. I dont need to practice drawing original drawings. I need to practice my shading/line art. If i use a reference I can spend more time working on my line art and shading.

but why Meli in particular? Though it might speed up the process quite a bit,but it is important to build up your anatomy elsewhere than one artist in particular. For instance, google search up "cartoon mouse, transformice mouse, or mouse" for some highlights on anatomy. Although I can help you myself.

Just going to pop in and leave again.
However I think the main reason people are talking about your reference use is because they prefer original art.
Could you perhaps draw some original art too? I want to see what your original style is.

But.. you asked for criticism...
Though I might disagree to some of what birdluv said, s/he made a lot of pretty good points.
But my advice though is just keep on drawing and take stuff one step at a time. (Focus on one thing first until you get that thing right)
And explore other art styles. Meli's art style is one of thousands of many other artists who drew their mice in their own way.
Also, it's harder to critique your stuff if you copied it on other people's art style.

i love your art work :3 even though it would be better to draw without using copyrighted pictures. Here you can make a mouse which ever way you like, no copyright. No offense, incase you kick me from the thread, i just wanted to help you out with ref finding. I hope i have helped you dear friend and good luck on your artwork!
