You probably got a title you already have or got "Nothing" as part of the things you can get.

are you sure that you got nothing? Did you check yur chat box for something about you winning a title? Did u make sure that everything in your inventory was the same as before you open any presents?

Being dead or alive doesn't matter. You will receive a present any particular way.
You may have gotten a item you already have and that item number increased. You probably didn't notice it.
