Can you provide us some computer specifications? The Steam standalone requires a slightly more powerful computer to run smoothly due to the Steam integration. It's possible that your computer is simply getting old.

I agree, there are some weird issues with perfomance on Steam standalone. When I connect, everything works nice and smooth but after 30min-1h of gameplay I get fps drops and/or serious stuttering. Quad core laptop AMD cpu at 2.1 ghz, 4 gbs of ram.

@Chainofchaos, your computer may not be old per se, but Core 2 Duo really isn't that new anymore.. I used that in 2010. 4Mb/s DL isn't that fast either. However, it should be good enough to properly play the game, especially if Atelier 801 / Transformice wants to remain lightweight.

@outoflock Quad core should be plenty of processing power for TFM.

It's possible that there are memory leaks in the new application that I don't know about, I'll forward the thread to the admins and see if they have something of value to add.

What is weird is that steam never freezes for me and I have Windows XP from 2002.

Chain im sure its your internet it never does this to steam for me and my computer is from 2000. After all everyone lags once in a while my ping is usually up to the 1000's

I can confirm that there are some weird performance spikes with the steam release. It's not consistent however, as I've had the game running for 8+ hours with no fps drops whatsoever whereas sometimes it might start stuttering just after an hour. Also, I've noticed that no matter the standalone, there are occasional huge frameskips that haven't been happening before. Like not consistent stuttering, but just a 10-30 frame freeze out of the blue. It's worse than slight stuttering as it the bigger spikes count as you stopping all actions for the time you're frozen.

I'm on core i5 760 @ 4.2ghz, 16gb ram, win7, 100/10mbps fibre so none of that shouldn't really be happening.
