The implementation of the chat tabs has been bugging me design-wise from the point on they were introduced.
My suggestion is to move them to the right side of the chat to get rid of the unused ugly space that looms underneath the tabs when opening one.

With the suggested layout the tabs don't invade the chat flow since most messages don't even reach the right side of the chat window.

First actual good suggestion i've seen in a while.

I usually don't have other tabs open, though this would be a nice update. When I do have tabs open, it really annoys me because it moves the whole chat more to the right. It's completely irritating for me.

This is exactly the issue I have with tabs. I find them really useful when I need them but never use them because their implementation is so ugly.

I purposely try to remove tabs, as useful as they are, because of where they are currently situated (ugly). Cant imagine this would be difficult to change either.

you're still going to have that problem when messages do end up becoming larger than one line, so i dont see the point.

I think these images (found in the new chat update announcement) depict what I prefer, but adjusted for the new tree ui
