Do you feel that on Transformice, you feel as if you are in a safe and welcoming place, Yes or No? Give me a reason why?

Share your story of why you feel as if everyone accepts you. (and if there is a new thread on this.. I'm sorry)

Not really :/ I wish it was a more welcoming place. The biggest reason for me is that the moment you mess up as shaman the entire room will turn on you, viciously. It doesn't bother me so much anymore but I feel bad for the new people who may not be able to take the harsh comments and may even end up quitting the game over a situation such as this.

I have found really good people and befriended them so I am mostly unaffected by the "outside world" as I mostly hang out in my tribe house and whisper people. But no, it is not a welcoming community. As many steam players have said, it is toxic.

The community is not very welcoming, which I personally find sad. A lot of people are rude and extremely judgmental, and I know it would drive me away instantly if I registered in these times.

When i first joined the community was fsar more welcoming.
The attitude of players right now scares off newer players right now.
As a small example, my home server is almost empty (less than 20 players in 5-6 rooms) even though there are a lot of italian players in this game, because the server is taken hostage from a small group of kids that spend their time insulting everyone, so we enjoy better playing in EN, in group.

Nope. This is why most of the time I'd rather stay in utility rooms or tribe houses to chat with my friends who would make me feel safe. I don't feel as if everyone accepts me, obviously. Sometimes I even feel like some people in my current tribe are not very happy with me being in it.

Because I feel that way to some people too.

Imho, this community is toxic in pretty much every meaning of the word.

2 examples: A couple of days ago I made a new account since I've found a name I liked to be available. Went into a normal vanilla room to play some on it. People who usually are all over me started being toxic for no apparent reason. I've found myself to be silently playing as I usually do yet everyone would get just so extremely butthurt it's not even funny anymore.

Second example would be yesterday. Some kid and his friends crashed a vanilla room and just started being outright hostile to people playing there. How they should just kill themselves and other completely inappropriate stuff that doesn't need to be quoted to prove my point.

Hostile whispers, outright hostility in the public chat for no reason - as I said very toxic community.

On the other hand I see a lot of new accounts that are downright hostile for no reason as well in an attempt to be cool I guess? Still haven't figured that one out as well.

Then again, there's also perfectly normal new players who are trying out the game while being faced with this downright hostility. Those I often find myself trying to welcome in at least some way. Now as I've stated I'm not necessarily the most talkative person when normally playing in a room - but I work. I have spare money. So I just send those that leave a good impression in my book a small gift in order to welcome them in some way.

While a large part of the community is toxic every single player who isn't can at least make a few players feel welcome in this game - which is what at least my POV on the issue is.

When I first joined back in 2010 no-one cared about stats since they were new and meant nothing, no-one cared if the shaman killed you or made mistake, people were playing just to have fun. The community then was a lot kinder and doing things just for the sake of enjoying it, but the game was completely different back then so it's to be expected.

No the community is not welcoming at all. It doesn't matter if you are an old or new player. It never has been. There is no discipline, so no restraint.

when i started playing i found "the community" (the people i played with, always the same mice, not IRL friends i just was lucky enough to find a pro who took me under their wing and always invited me into their private rooms with their mature friends) very welcoming, i was trained up and taught the ropes nicely :)

I think I'm an anomaly though, and it's mostly a toxic community. I try to detatch myself from the social aspect of the game though. I'm not here to chat, listen, or make friends. I'm here to play a cute flash game.

This thread seems to (so far) only be people stating their bad experiences. Can't we change the direction a bit onto how to FIX this problem rather than just talking about said problem?

I think there's 2 huge things that contribute to this toxicity:

1) the lack of a competent tutorial. Now I've heard that tig is a troll, and that the tutorial is deliberatly bad without even touching on shamming to troll the players, so this crappy tutorial may be intended. I Don't think we -need- a tutorial at all, we have the "how to play" on tfm.com and the comprehensive tutorial guides on the forums. All you need is a link to those BEFORE you sign up. a "have you read the how to play?" popup with a link. Then the people who don't would be CHOSING to stay ignorant and any insults directed at them would be a bit more.... justified? I guess. I used to think everyone HAD TO read the how to play (as i did, but i was told to by my pro-mentor) and used to get annoyed at nooby shams who didn't even know what spacebar or B did. Now I know there's nowhere on the game that refers you to the instructions, so people can and do log in and not know what they're doing, so i'm a bit more forgiving. And I always point people towards the instuctions if they're struggling.. It's unfair that these people get abuse cos most of them don't even know the instuctions are out there. Most toxicity starts because a sham made a mistake, or a mouse made a mistake, these can be fixed with an easier intro to the mechanics and purpose of the game.

also, touching on the "i hear tig is a troll" thing. I've read he is, and he's the one who "sets the bar" here. If your main game dev sets up the tutorial, the first thing you see in the game, as a troll... well, what kind of example does that set? Everyone playing this game instantly knows it's fine to troll, and considering how hard people find it to differentiate between "trolling" and "abuse" they quickly assume if trolling is allowed that things like insults are too. It's so rife in every room. It's a monkey-see-monkey-do problem

2) age, or assumption of age.

notice that everyone in this thread uses the word "kids" when talking about people who are acting badly on the game. Why do you make this assumption? People seem to asume the younger users are the problem here, yet the company is trying to make it a kid friendly game? And i heard it originally found it's popularity on 4chan and was advertised as a trolling game for adults even though it had a kid-friendly look? This may just be what "the community" found and displayed it as tho, and not intended by the devs. I have no idea, i'd like to know what target audience the game ORIGINALLY had though, out of curiosity. But either way, ageism is rife here. People assume anyone being a dick is a 9 year old, and anyone over 20 is a pedophile. Most abuse involves age. Most assumptions do too. The whole business with the age of the playerbase needs to be adressed. Is this a kid friendly game? Was it originally? If so why change the target audience, it's a very hard thing to do. These are the questions you need to start asking if you even wanna attempt to deal with the problem of an immature playerbase with a bad agism problem

(sorry for ranty post)

To address to some of your points *sorry having some quoting issues*

*I think the original age group was 13+, (Hopefully someone who knows can correct me or verify this).
*I think the in game tutorial only shows the basics of the game (get the cheese into the hole), but I do agree that they should add the shaman tutorial in game (and an updated one, too)

Other than that I agree with most of your points

PS: I doubt Tig will stop being a troll any time soon lol

Yes, I do believe that the original age group is/was intended to be 13+.

I honestly thought that this game wasn't very welcoming. Some people helped when I was a shaman, but, overall people were just mad at me when I was shaman during the beginning of my TFM experience. But I found some amazing friends, and that's what made me stay on TFM.
