This has been an annoying bug for a while but it just occurred to me that I haven't really seen any threads about it in recent memory.

If you pick the wrong shaman object with a hotkey and anchor it, then select a different one with a hotkey and try to anchor it again, the object will just shift positions rather than attach the anchor. The only way to fix this is to manually click an object rather than using a hotkey to "reset" it.

As you can see in the picture, the plank shifts away from the cursor rather than placing the anchor:

If that didn't make sense, just do this to replicate it:
1. Choose a shaman object with a hotkey 1-9.
2. Anchor it with a C or V anchor hotkey
3. Choose a different shaman object with a hotkey 1-9
4. Try to anchor again with a hotkey

Noticed this with balloons, and arrows most of the time but never knew how it was done.

It says old in the title lol. Actually hitting an object hotkey after the anchor has always bugged things as far as I can remember. In 2010 it double spawned things. After that was removed in 2011/2012, planks created offcenter invisible V anchors if you rotated enough. Now you can create invisible anchors on all objects, but the objects show the wrong position and you don't have to rotate.

Another quickish workaround is to spawn an arrow.

I always wondered what caused this "strafing" of objects rather than moving the anchors, thank you for telling me what it was (i ise hotkeys all the time and change my mind quickly) now i can avoid it :D

would appriciate a fix tho, this bugs me every day

It results from the same mechanic which is described in this thread.

The best workaround is to simply press another anchor type and then go back to the actual anchor you wanted. So if you press 9,C,8 and your short plank is floating around somewhere, just press V,C and you have your short plank with a normal C anchor back.

I would hate if this bug was fixed since this, as Shamanaut explained, enables making invisible v anchors. The advantage of the invisible anchors is that you can also set them at for example 3/4 of a long plank, instead of only in the middle and on the ends of the plank. This allows for great catapults or other cool shaman builds like shown in the gif:

you mean you can't apply V anchors at any point with the arrow like you can with C?

genuine question, it's something i've never tried, i guess i've only ever used C nails with the arrow, are they the only ones you can use this way?

You can use V anchors that way actually, that's why they're limited in divine mode.

ah, k, noob questions i know but i don't play divine mode.

so why can't you just use a arrow to achieve that kind of build? and have the nail visible

Well try to build that with a normal arrow anchor and you will find out. It's hard to get the plank at the right position without it moving etc, mice will just push it around everywhere. Makes for unreliable building.

You can use any anchor for arrow anchoring except the B anchor. You can for example put an arrow N anchor right over a normal V anchor and it will start rotating.
