Okay, so I have a few friends who never actually check their inbox that much. Maybe if I send them a message, this will come up in their chat:

Actually we had that before for a short time, but for some reasons admins removed it, but I'd love to have it back.

Not sure why it was removed, it seems like a good idea to make forum messaging a lot more useful for people that don't usually check the forums daily. I'd like to see this back.

As Shamousey, I also do wonder why it was removed after it was added. I do remember it having a few bugs, but I doubt it couldn't have been fixed right? (unless it of course put too much stress on the forum and servers, when it was loading for every player at same time)
