#towerdefense@beta-2.0.4:

Description:
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯

Towerdefense is a minigame where the almighty shaman will defend his cheese using towers, which shoot objects. Can you outsmart the shaman?

Where to play:
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯

You can play Towerdefense in any #towerdefense room (example: #towerdefense, #towerdefense2, #towerdefense1337gitgudm8). Feel like kicking back and enjoying Towerdefense in your tribe house? No problem, use /module towerdefense to start playing.

How to play:
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯

As a mouse, you can double jump by pressing the spacebar. The first wave has no double jump, and your double jump will get stronger with each wave.
As a shaman, to place a tower, you first select a tower. Then, you click the location where you want to place the tower, and then click in the direction you want the tower to shoot.
Once you perform the second click (i.e., aiming the tower), the tower is placed down and all tower placements are final.
If you have not aimed the tower, you can cancel the tower placement by clicking on the tower.

Commands:

You can contribute to Towerdefense in several ways.
The simpest way, of course, is to play Towerdefense and tell your friends about what a great game it is!
Also, more maps are always welcome! Details and guidelines on making a Towerdefense map will be released shortly.
If you are fluent in at least two languages (including English), then you can help us translate Towerdefense! (not yet, stay tuned)

Background:
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯

The job of the Mouse, as in everywhere else in Transformice, is to get the cheese. However, in this minigame, the all-powerful Shaman shall not be helping you. Instead, the Shaman, overcome by greed and his power, has decided to deny you the basic right to sustenance by placing down towers.

You must therefore circumvent the Shaman's defense in order to acquire the cheese. To do this, you have learned a special double jump skill, which allows you to have an extra jump. Also, in view of the danger of this operation (you're going against the Shaman, for crying out loud), the help of a special agency has been contracted that will help you regenerate should you fail in your mission. Regeneration isn't cheap, so it can only be done in batches. You and your fellow mice will be released in the form of waves as a result of the batch regeneration. The agency gets better at regenerating mice every wave, so as a side effect your double jump ability will be enhanced every wave.

Furthermore, intelligence has been received that the all-powerful Shaman isn't actually all-powerful: tower placements use up a lot of the Shaman's internal energy which recharges slowly. Thus, the Shaman can only put down a limited number of towers before running out of energy and having to recharge; use this to your advantage.

Now, go forth and claim back the cheese that is rightfully yours! Note that you do not have much time to reacquire the cheese; the Shaman has arranged for the cheese to be evacuated after a short period of time.

Techniques:
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯

As a Mouse, your double jump is the key to defeating the Shaman's defenses; as such, most mice techniques are focussed on the use of the double jump.

Wave 1: you just spawned as a Mouse, hooray! You have no double jump, so it is important to master the following:
  • dodging a cannon by jumping over it
  • dodging a vertical cannon next to a wall by jumping around it
  • riding a cannon by hitting it at an angle, not dissimilar to FFA cannon jumping
  • using a cannon to fly up by positioning yourself between a flying cannon and a wall
  • other classic survivor techniques

Wave 2: you just received your double jump, awesome! Note that the double jump resets your velocity, much like the normal jump. Thus, you can utilise the double jump to reset your velocity should you accidentally fall downwards at great speed, whether the result of a cannon or a spirit tower. That said, you now have an edge over spirit towers: if you happen to be pushed down by a spirit, using the double jump will instantly reset your velocity.

Wave 4: your double jump is now reasonably strong to attempt a technique known as the turnaround. This is a technique often used in racing and bootcamp where you grip one side of a ground, go under it, jump, and attempt to grip the other side of the ground (literally, turning around). The turnaround can be performed on reasonably thin grounds, possibly around 60 pixels wide. It is no different from the standard turnaround, except that you can utilise your doublejump after your jump as a means of getting high enough to grip the other side.
Somewhere around this wave, the Shaman will begin to fortify the defenses, possibly by placing down towers on top of another tower to achieve the effect of increasing the spawn frequency. You should be able to get around this defense by jumping to the side of the first cannon, using your double jump, then going around the second cannon back to the wall to get grip again, effectively dodging two cannons per walljump cycle.

Wave 8: your double jump is now almost as strong as your normal jump. Hence, you might consider using your double jump first, then the normal jump, and then the double jump again once it is off cooldown in order to travel much further distances.

Wave 11: your double jump is now really strong. With the kind of power this level of double jump provides, you should have no problem getting around Shaman defenses. There are also many places in most maps where you can use a double jump to shortcut your way through.

Background:
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯

The ex-job of the Shaman was to spawn objects to help mice acquire cheese. However, why should the Shaman be subjected to servitude despite being so powerful? The Shaman decided that helping mice would no longer be on the to-do list; the cheese would all belong to the Shaman. There is a slight problem, though. The mice are definitely not happy with a cheese-free diet, and reports indicate that the mice are planning a revolution to recoup the cheese.

You couldn't possibly cope with a horde of invading mice by spawning objects yourself, so you decide to defend your cheese with towers, which spawn objects at regular intervals. The downside is that these towers are really taxing on your energy, so the few towers that you place should be maximally effective at defending your cheese.

You receive word of the mice invasion before they arrive; you will have some time to prepare your initial defenses before they invade. You also hear that the mice are capable of regenerating in waves: mice that go down will come back up. The mice ALSO have access to a fancy new tool known as the double jump, which might make your defenses easier to get past. Amidst all the bad news are some pieces of good news: you recently read an ancient scroll on the regeneration of internal energy, so you will be able to replenish your energy to spawn more towers during the invasion. Besides, the mice appear to be as squishy as normal: a cannon to the head, they go under, game over for them (until they regenerate). Also, you have access to a reliable transport service, so you will be able to evacuate the cheese after a short period of time.

The mice are arriving soon; be prepared for the invasion. Good bye, good luck.

Techniques:
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯

Towers are the single tool you have access to, and therefore, you must make the most of it.
However, placing towers without proper planning is not a good idea, as you have limited capability to spawn towers, and none at all to remove them.
Hence, proper tower placement and timing, along with good Point management, will give you a good chance of holding back the mice.

Wave 0: you receive notice of the imminent Mouse invasion. Survey the map and identify chokepoints (places where most mice will have to traverse in order to reach the cheese), and lock down the chokepoints with your towers such that the mice would have a difficult time getting past. Specifically, downward-facing cannons are great for securing a wall or a vertical strip of water.

Wave 1: mice spawn for the first time. They do not have access to their double jump yet; your defenses do not have to account for tricks the mice could attempt with double jump (yet).

Wave 4: the double jump now has enough power to allow mice to attempt a trick known as the turnaround. You may want to secure potential turnaround sites with Ball Towers. You may also have to strengthen your initial defenses by placing a tower on top of another tower, effectively increasing the rate at which the object spawns.

Wave 8: at this point, the double jump is something to be feared. Ensure that your defenses are secure enough that simply double-jumping past would be a huge challenge.

Wave 11: the mice would go all out with their double jumps. Make sure that all shortcuts are locked down properly. Also, good luck; you'll need it.

There are several tricks that the Shaman can accomplish with their Towers.
  • Timing Control: Carefully timing the placement of towers can potentially allow towers to work together to defend a certain part of the map.
  • Upward-facing Cannon: You can point the cannon tower slightly upward (or more) to reduce the speed of the cannon being shot (this is known as a slow cannon). A cannon facing directly upward would just fall straight down (also uncommonly known as a 0v or zero-velocity cannon).
  • Bounce Cannon: Aiming a cannon down at a ground (or at a slight angle) would cause the cannon to bounce up slightly when it hits the ground. This is useful for securing areas where mice have to walljump up a side of a ground: the bounce often causes mice jumping up to be hit when a normal cannon would not hit.
  • Superball / Hyperball: Fire a cannon in the direction you want to shoot at, and place a ball along the line of fire, facing directly towards the cannon. If you time it right, the ball and cannon would spawn at the same time, and the ball would bounce off the cannon, flying with great speed.
  • Ball Control: Balls are double-edged swords. They are good for defending walls, since they can hit a mouse down while airborne, despite being light. However, this causes the ball to fly in random directions, and due to the bounciness of balls, the balls flying around may help bounce a mouse up or provide a jump to an airborne mouse. Use balls with care. Note that balls are not much good at defending anything else since they are so light.
  • Wall Spirit: Placing a spirit tower inside of a wall can sometimes deny a walljump (especially if the wall has no ledges to cling on to).
  • Sniping: If you manage to create a defense which is really tough to get past, you could sit on a bunch of points. If a mouse somehow manages to get past the defense, you can try suddenly spawning a Ball Tower or Cannon Tower near a hole to push the mouse to its death (i.e., wait for the mouse to attempt to jump over the hole, then hit it with a ball or cannon to make it die). This takes a lot of practice and is really dependent on ping.

The job of the Mapmaker is to, well, make maps (big surprise there /s). You will be a Gamemaker, creating the very battlefields that Shaman and Mouse would pit their skills and wits against.

Map making specifications and guidelines will be released shortly.

Can you provide more details, like what happened, etc?
Would be great if you could provide steps for bug reproduction.

[e: If every single piece of text disappeared including profile and scoreboard text, it's likely that towerdefense was not the cause.]

Some suggestions...
- ESC : Cancel Tower Summon
- Numbered Hotkeys for towers : 1/Ball , 2/Cannon , 3/Spirit , etc.
- Something to show that you are about to place a tower. (After the 1st click, before the confirm.) I know the tower is placed there, but an overall warning like some big red text in the corner, sometimes you can lose where you placed the cannon or not even notice you did.
- Put the score (mice in hole/needed) somewhere in the ui.
- An option to turn off the messages of when mice enter the hole, or remove them all together.

You can actually cancel a tower that is not shooting yet (only 1st click) by clicking on the tower again.

I was playing again and the bug happened again where everything went blank. I was the shaman and towards the end of the round (wave 10) everything went blank one by one. The top bar went out first, then a second later my whisper tabs got lost, and lastly my entire chat disappeared. This has only happened to me while playing the minigame itself, not anywhere else. This was the third time while playing.
