TL;DR: While Dead Maze help or hurt Fortoresse?

So I'm not sure how many of you know, but Atelier 801 is working on new survival game slated for beta testing soon. While originally it was planned to be paid, it seems they now plan for it to be F2P.

I've seen some concerns about how it's release will affect Fortoresse. While Fortoresse really doesn't have all that many updates as-is, I'm curious what the Fortoresse forum regulars think in regards to what effects it may have.
-Are the games too similar, leaving Fortoresse on the way-side?
-Could Dead Maze bring in a new player base to the Atelier 801 community, potentially bring new attention to Fortoresse?
-Are they different enough that very little difference will happen to Fortoresse (aside from an initial active player "re-balancing" across all games as player attentions shift on release).
-etc

Considering Fort, assume 801 still concern Fort, the earliest time Fort receives an update is probably after Dead Maze is open for beta test. But it's more likely to happen after Dead Maze is ready to be released. At that moment they will have free time to update Fort in ideal situation.Note that they still have other games have to manage.
Before the update for Fort, when will Dead Maze be released then?801 says Dead Maze will be released in September 2015.About this date,I have a little worry.Evaluating the time developing such scale of game is always difficult,so the released date may be delayed.

However there have few of good news helping them to develop Dead Maze smoothly.
1.801 grows from the dead of Celousco, improving to better plan and implement.
2.they have already developed a basic model of Dead Maze, which saves time to plan.
I guess it won't fail again
else the next thread 801 announce will be
Dead Maze is really dead, long dead Dead Maze.

So they'll make a new game with zombie-lake features but they won't just add that to Forto?

Technically, they never said zombies to my knowledge; just "bloodthirsty monsters". Odds are zombie, but maybe there other stuff too.

As far as I'm concerned they have "plans" for games like bouboum and fortoresse, but don't ever really spend too much time on it. Experimenting with new games is something they like to do, thus leaving little room for older games that have been released. I can only assume they want to hit the jackpot like they did when they created TFM. TFM grew larger than they could have imagined it to, but milking TFM is getting ever harder and they need a new gold mine, which is a likely reason for them trying to make new games.

100% agreed, that's been my main theory too. I'm not really sure if it's for the experience (since they are just remakes of old games, albeit reworked a decent amount), but I'm almost positive they are just hoping for one of their new games to get get popular and some new blood into the community.

Well maybe if they spent time on Bouboum and Fortorese there be a mass outbreak in new players, but if they keep working on other games that won't happen.

That's not quite how it works. If the game doesn't have too much interest from different communities initially, it makes it harder to get interest in the game to grow. If you make a game that has large interest from the start it makes it easier to make the game grow.

Though I agree with a few thousand players in Fortoresse, interest in the game could increase pretty fluidly, I feel as if Atelier801 is hoping for that lucky outbreak in one of their new games. It's pushing luck pretty far, but it could potentially pay off, which is probably what they have in mind.

However this type of thing is not my sort of area so I could be wrong and it's likely I am wrong about many things I have mentioned. A lot of it is mere theory so it's probably time that Solfn comes along and corrects everything I've said.

Sadly most games have a very short "shelf life", and without a majorly huge update the shelf life rarely gets get's extended by much.

The first "zone" of the game is f2p, and has "several hours of gameplay" according to Meli. (source)

Edit: Even though survival games aren't my thing, I've been finding it fun to compile all the info I've found onto the wiki, encase anyone's curious.

Dead Maze wikia a dit :
[...] The name was inspired by a previous Extinction game, DeadMeat. [...]

Deadmeat (and Poisson) wasn't actually part of the Extinction game since the players cannot connect with theirs Extinction accounts but only as a "guest", like the game Mouton (connecting in the game with any pseudo without password and to be able to speak in the chat).

but it was made by Tig and put on extinction.fr, right? So while it might not be part of the extinction login, wouldn't it still be an "extinction" game?

Edit: Either way, I removed that part.

Hum yeah, I think you're right about the fact that the game was hosted in the extinction.fr/* domain if I remember.
It's not clear if those games are part of the extinction game since they were only open for a short time (experimentation and stuff).

So now that Dead Maze is getting closer and we have more info / images, I'm bumping this to see if people's opinions have changed at all.

Personally I am beginning to come around and do suspect the zombie update may have been put on hold to not "compete" with Dead Maze (although I still have hope they may be added in a "few" (9+?) months once Dead Maze get's the attention it "needs").
