[Suggestion] New Avatar URL for updated avatars |

I know that's a small suggestion, but I consider it almost a request. As you all know, the cache of our avatar is saved in browser. When you change your avatar, it's a bit bad to know that the another people (the which already seen you avatar) still can't see your new avatar and are obliged to clear the browser cache. Now, changing URL, you could see your avatar with no troubles because it would be in another local/or it would have a different name (in file). As ever, the older avatar would be deleted by adding a new avatar. Just easy. Dernière modification le 1442590260000 |

Haruhitastic a dit : The most likely reason why it currently works this way is to save space. Using the current system, the forum/game does not need to save the name of the every avatar's filename for each player. Instead, the forum/game simply asks for the file matching the user's ID. Example: Profiver, your avatar is located at : http://avatars.atelier801.com/2150/65772150.jpg where 65772150 is your game user id. If your suggestion was implemented, every single new avatar would need to be assigned a unique id/name and the database/game/forum would need a method of matching player ids with avatar filenames/ids. This requirement to match up avatars with players would require space because something like the following needs storing for every player: Player Id ---> Avatar 123456 -----> avatarFileNameBlahBlahBlah.jpg I'm not saying this isn't going to happen, or that it's not possible, but I suspect this is the reason why they have set it up like this. |

The player could have a column in avatar, which would be called "avatarn" (by example), in this column would be the value of avatar image file number, and case its value is equal to 0, then is default. For example, the file could begin with user ID, and in each time that the user change account avatar, it will changing the file name with different numbers before the .jpg. Then it may not be heavy, also because the older image is deleted, and this really makes we know how much times we changed the avatar. It doesn't take more space from database, but as are more than millions of players registered, it will delay a while to create this column for all players... Dernière modification le 1442594580000 |

profiver a dit : Adding another column means storing more data i.e. more space required, larger database etc. As I said before, I'm not implying that this suggestion is not going to happen, or that it is unfeasible. I was trying to explain why it was perhaps originally done this way. This feature would solve the common issue of "why isn't my avatar updating?" that a lot of players face, so I think it would be quite popular. Dernière modification le 1442614140000 |

It'd at most only have to store 1 additional character (which could be the number of the avatar the player uploaded). I don't think that database space is really an issue here, especially since avatars are already about 30kb each. +1 for the idea, it'd solve the problem that hundreds of people have and get confused about and it's an easy solution. Ah yes, storing 1 extra byte for the image sounds like a very good idea! |

Shamousey a dit : Icewolfbob a dit : It may also be a nibble (half-byte)... in case there's a boolean field with 7 bits resting. |
