I would say its a great starter, and it's to get used to playing this game. Because we all know that Dota is incredibly hard :3 If you tried LoL, it would make sense

In my opinion, you can't learn one game from playing another. You can only transfer that experience over which can sometimes be a bad thing. Take TF2 and a modern day shooter for an example.

I just say play the game no matter the difficulty and you'll eventually get used to the basics and go from there.

Dota 2 and LoL are completely different games. If you played LoL extensively as a gateway to dota 2 then you're probably going to be even more confused because mechanics/items/heroes are completely different. The only thing that's same is that the are both the same 'genre' albeit loosely.
